No bass notation yet. Shame, but I guess its harder than notating a guitar or piano. Can't understand why. I think maybe they don't think anybody wants bass notation.

There is some bass notation I saw it.....

From the main page of the new Windows 2011 ...

RealCharts notation for some Acoustic Bass parts, and options for "simpler" playing in some RealTracks.
Posted By: PeterGannon Re: No bass notation yet... - 12/06/10 12:15 AM
The following bass styles have been updated so that they now display RealCharts in notation, TAB, and on the on-screen bass fretboard:

423: Bass, Acoustic, Jazz Sw 140
464 Bass, Acoustic, Bossa Ev 140
732 Bass, Acoustic, Jazz Ballad Sw 085
546 Bass, Acoustic, Jazz Waltz Sw 140
711 Bass, Acoustic, Bossa Ev 085
717 Bass, Acoustic, Samba Ev 190
752 Bass, Acoustic, Jazz BeBop Sw 190
926 Bass, Acoustic, Jazz Waltz Sw 085

You need to get an updated default.sol file to see the RealCharts. That would be included in the next patch. In the meantime, if you want to see bass notation for one of the #s above, like 423, press the Soloist button, then Edit, and find soloist 423, and select the "RealCharts" checkbox. You will now see notaiton/tab for the bass. (note that this will only work on the list above(

Hi Wolftone,

Also, don't overlook the midi bass parts if it's notation you are after. There is some excellent notation in all midi bass lines that could be used to give some first class musical ideas.

Regards,
Noel

I tried it with 732 and activated the chart button. Neil is playing triplets and approach tones, but the notation on the soloist track is only showing quarter notes. Oh well, its a start I guess, but kind of useless as it is.
Posted By: Wolftone Re: No bass notation yet... - 12/08/10 04:47 PM
I tried 732 again and this time turned off "double time". The guitar seems to notate correctly. But the bass is still just reproducing quarter notes. Strangely, the dedicated bass track is showing a few notes in the highter register only. And the soloist track has some dropout still, even with the regular bass track muted.

Wolf,
Regarding the issue on 732 not showing bass notation.
(As mentioned, you are applying the manual fix (edit-soloists-use realchart=yes -see info above), because our patch isn't ready until tomorrow).
Sorry, there was a typo in the list above.
That explains your issue with 732. It is on the list to do, but not done.

423: Bass, Acoustic, Jazz Sw 140
464 Bass, Acoustic, Bossa Ev 140

481 Bass, Acoustic, Jazz Ballad Sw 085 (note: not 732)

546 Bass, Acoustic, Jazz Waltz Sw 140
711 Bass, Acoustic, Bossa Ev 085
717 Bass, Acoustic, Samba Ev 190
752 Bass, Acoustic, Jazz BeBop Sw 190
926 Bass, Acoustic, Jazz Waltz Sw 085

Thanks Peter. I like to think I played a small part in this by bugging Oliver G. to bug you about bass notation happen. Who knows?

Wolftone, download Build #312.

Heck, I love the record! I already have tons of stuff from Romero Lumbaba....

Now that the patch is ready, I had it working once but now I can't get it going again. I have tried right clicking on the soloist instrument and generating a bass track (I don't know which ones work), setting the solo instrument as acoustic bass in the styles dialogue, and setting the track as bass in options. Nada so far. Perhaps there are specific styles for this that are already confifured?

Ok I got it working, just had the wrong bass soloist (732 instead of 481). Now just would love to get the notation on the bass clef.

Duh....turn off the tab! Be nice to get rid of the treble clef though.

You *should* be able to turn that Treble Clef into a Bass Clef from the Notation Window.

Options button, then peruse the window towards bottom center for the dropdown window and find the Bass Clef option there, select it. Hit Okay, of course.

Then you should have Bass Clef AND the Tab below it.

Thanks Mac, but I don't think they have had that option for a qauite awhile notw. Its just track type: "single channel', 'guitar', 'bass', etc. That option might still be in PowerTacks though...

You are looking at the top left of the Notation Options window.

What I'm referring to is in the center - "Transpose Options" - and I just tried it out here with 2011, set it to, "Bass Guitar +12" at the very bottom of the dropdown.

Hi Mac. I also have 2011 and the patch. I had tried all the transpose options already. The best I can get is the bass line on the treble clef with tab below. I can get along without the tab, but I like to try to realize any and all possiblities. I cannot get the bass tab to work in RealBand though. There used to be a clef option in earlier versions of BIAB I think.

Then again..I opened a real tracks bossa nova style "Bossan" and there was the notation in the bass clef (only) and the tab above right there on the default bass track. Go figure. I think I need a list of which sytles work for this.

There should be an "N" in the Chart column of the Assign RealTracks to Track dialog.

Also, the use of underlining in the instrument name tells you about the notation. Look at Help, RealCharts for info.

Got it! Thanks once more. That gives me a quick way to reference if the realbass assigned to the style chosen will work or no. Oddly, I tried a bunch of styles the use realtracks and different songs where the bass notation was displayed and noticed that each of them occassionally through in a bar or so of 4 note bass chords!
Posted By: Wolftone Re: No bass notation yet... - 12/09/10 10:25 PM
Seems to work if I press "GT" also, not only "N"
