Using Build 318

I am trying to have a series of held chords in a breakdown chorus excluding drums, guitar and strings (2nd gtr) which are set to not play, leaving only piano (ac gtr) and bass.

The bass and ac gtr come out as shots. Also the acoustic guitar in this style sounds pretty unnatural to me - the strum is quite far after the 1st beat. The drums and electric guitars are nice.

Are these bugs?

Thanks
M

Are you entering the holds like "C..." or "C.."? 3 dots = hold, 2 dots = shot, 1 dot = rest.

Yep, D...dg (3 dots) and then set excluded instruments to rest...

Mus,
Why don't you post the problem piece so others can see and hear whats going on. Just a suggestion.

I tried to set this up on mine and I see what you mean. I wonder if there is a problem with the corresponding "holds" files for those particular RealTracks (#388 and #405). The hold responds more like a shot; it definitely does not hold throughout the bar.

There are 2 likely causes to the problem:

1. The RealTrack #405 is not set to use any particular Holds set. (this is unlikely if you have installed the latest patch) In the RealTracks picker window, the column to the far right called "Holds" indicates which Holds set each RealTrack is assigned to. For #405 this should say "1".

2. You do not have the particular Holds set. You can check by opening your "bb" folder, then open "RealTracks", "Libray", "Holds" and look for "Holds_1" (if it DOES exist open it and make sure that it is not empty)

If you are missing any Holds folders, you can get them by installing the RealTracks patch updates.

Thanks guys.

Yes, the Real Tracks are associated with a Hold set. I have Holds 1-173 and Holds_1 has 32 items in the folder.

You would have thought this was one of the simpler styles and it's one of my favourites, but pushes are just as disastrous as the holds. The bass part is very straightforward but it would still be quite useful if it generated some midi...

I also have Hold 1-173, however, Holds_1 has 12 items in the folder (dates 2/10/10 and 11/18/09).

Don't know if thats right or wrong, just different.

I think it is playing fine here with the C...dg. I can't listen to your file since the link does not work.

Another way I can reproduce the problem is to goto Opt. | Preferences | RealTracks, and uncheck "Allow RealTracks Shots, Holds, and Pushes"

The holds and pushes files are fine. There is a bug in the way the feature called "excluded instruments rest" when you make a hold. That's not a commonly used feature, but I noticed that you used it in your demo. If you remove that checkbox, the holds will sound fine. In the next patch update, we'll fix that in the bbw.exe program so that the holds/shots also work when "excluded instruments rest" is selected in the dialog.
Here's what those chords sound like with the holds/shots as intended....

The fix is present in this patch upgrade.

Now if I could just give a 2 thumbs up to the fact that the problem was stated, duplicated, and solutions offered, not just from staff but from the owner and dreamer himself.

As they say,

"Himself has spoken, so."
