I just upgraded to Band-In-A-Box 2009 for Mac and I'm encountering a problem when using RealTracks and RealDrums. Whenever I play a track with those features on, I get a message box with the following:

Error: CalcBeatAryAndSaveBT0 got called!

After this, BIAB crashes. Has anybody else experienced this? I'm using a Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo running OSX 10.4.11.

Regards,
Paul

Hi Paul,

No, we haven't seen any problem like that before.
BB 2009 does work with 10.4.x and higher.

The message indicates that the "bt0" file, which is present in the RealTracks folders, are not able to be loaded properly.
Possible causes:

- Network permissions - you should have full "admin" permissions, not limited
- Antivirus program interferring
- Case sensitive file system set (that is an unusual setting that some people make, that makes their whole Mac file system case sensitive)

Q. Could you give us the full message that appears, it should say "Error: CalcBeatAryAndSaveBT0 " and also say the filename that couldn't be loaded. Does yours just show Error: CalcBeatAryAndSaveBT0 and nothing else?

Q. Every real tracks, for example on the demo song =George_P.MGU

Hi Peter,

Yep, it was a permission problem indeed. Thanks.

So admin privilege is required when using RealTracks? I don't have any problem playing the midi ones.
Hi,

Where is your Band-in-a-Box folder, and where is your RealTracks folder? What type of account do you have (system preferences - accounts)?

I tend to repair permissions after any software installs or system file movements.
After I installed everything, disk utility actually crashed on me. Woah 1st time ever! 10.5.3 MAC Pro 2.66 Xenon quad/5GIG RAM

>>> tend to repair permissions after any software installs or system file movements.

What are you referring to here? The BB install just copies files to your Applications/Band-in-a-Box folder, and the fonts to your font folder.
Why would you need to repair permissions?

Hi Peter,
Most of us MAC folks know that repairing permissions is a normal regimen for MAC OSX regular maintenance(esp in Panther , Tiger-Leopard much less) when odd things start to happen, and Audio/MIDI folks have gotten to the point of making it a habit to repair permissions and running a GUI type utility e.g. cocktail, ONyx etc for UNIX command utilities, and running the daily, weekly, monthly crons. Kind of similar to repairing the desktop from the ol' OS9 days.Repairing permissions before and after a OS update is almost a must for happy computing.
OSX does have its own niggles if you will, and permissions is one of a few items that can cause OS level issues depending on the users OS configuration.

I do my day to day computing using a standard account. BIAB and RealTracks are in the default location (Applications/Band-in-a-Box).

If you move the Band-in-a-Box folder to your home folder (ie Finder-Places- "Peter" is mine), then you can run the program as a limited user from there, without encountering any permission problems.

It works. Thanks

I am having this same problem. At first I got the error message as soon as I loaded the real track demo. I repaired permissions, and now it crashes as soon as I hit Play. The error message is:

CalcBeatAryAndSaveBT0 got called! File /Applications/BIAB/Real Tracks/Pedal Steel, Background Ev 085/RPS002.bt0. You may need to set System Preferences - Accounts - for Admin permissions for this account.

I have RW permission for the BIAB and Real Tracks folders. System and admin have RW permission for the Pedal Steel 085 folder.

I don't want to move BIAB into the folder for my user name - I want to leave it where it is.

How can I fix this?

What you say is really not true anymore. I can't tell you the last time I ran a repair permissions......and I regularly use PT8, DP 6, and other things all the time.

Eric, I didn't say it was the bible to repair permissions etc. With Leopard, yes we don't need to repair permissions like Panther/Tiger. I did mention in my reply that when odd things start to happen, it is a good time to repair permissions. It certainly does not hurt

As a matter of fact, after I installed BB MAC09, my system crashed (kernal panic). I have had 2 or 4 hard crashes since Aug 08., not counting the one after installing BB. I crashed attempting to repair permissions, so I rebooted, an attempted DU again, this time with success.

Sorry , If I implied otherwise.

I have BB app installed in the applications folder in Leo OSX 10.5.3. If people would advise their systems config's . it would be easier for the PG's tech team see any trend. OSX Leopard has a different directory than the previous OS's

If you run BB as an Admin user, all would be fine, just run the program, no need to mess with permissions etc.

Running as a limited (standard "non-admin" ) user, you would need to have the entire Band-in-a-Box folder set to Read/Write permiision for everyone.
This is done as follows:

From the Admin account,

1. GetInfo (Command I) on the /Applications/Band-in-a-Box folder.
2. Press the UNLOCK button at the bottom right of the dialog
3. In the Sharing and Permissions tab, set Privliges for all the accounts to Read and Write
4. Press the WheelGear button at the bottom (beside the + - buttons), and choose "Apply to Enclosed Items" - this will apply the permissions to all folders within.

Then, switch to your Standard Account, and repeat steps 1 to 4.
