I have been looking at RealGuitar for quite some time because of their pattern library. $139 just might be the incentive to grab this one. The new features, especially the song mode, seem very powerful. Almost BIAB-like! smile

Have you used any of the MusicLab guitars?
Yes I got RealRick but I can output the midi to Kontakt and use a Nylon or any other guitar or instrument with it and create your own patterns from midi files (manually at the moment).
I'm just thinking about the RealEight at the moment to give a bit more range.

EDIT: just got the RealEight 4 for $89
I recently bought that Realitone Fingerpick Guitar for $49 and it is pretty cool. But I am very tempted by the $139 RealGuitar because of the songwriter mode it has. Every time I write I love having a tool to experiment and quickly try out progressions and riffs and strums. I had hoped to use RapidComposer for that but have not yet clicked with it. I like how RealGuitar has a chord wheel built right in (BIAB should have that; so easy to implement!) And I liked how you can copy from an online chordsheet, paste into RG to get the chords then drag them and a pattern onto the song. It all looks like an easy way to experiment.

Do you know if I will be able to export the complete MIDI rendering of their patterns to my DAW for further editing or using with a different guitar VSTi?
Where did you buy the RealEight? Sounds like you saved an extra $10 off their listed sale price!
Yes I get a discount as I have purchased RealRick already.
You have optional download sound bank : 24-bit 96 kHz high quality dry samples recorded directly from pick-ups let you easily create any desired guitar sound using your favorite amplifier simulator.

Also got: Your serial number for Amplitube Custom Shop: XXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXX

Yes they got that from EZKeys and Strummed Acoustics got the Beat finder from EZDrummer And I liked how you can copy from an online chordsheet, paste into RG to get the chords then drag them and a pattern onto the song. Yes that makes it easy, and when you drag the chord track out of RealGuitar you will get Chord names in the markers, I asked them to do that (and they did it the next day smile ). It all looks like an easy way to experiment.

Yes you can can set the output to Midi only and write that to another track in Reaper or just set output of RG to midi only and use a Send then load Kontakt into the receive track, you can put a midi transpose (by +12 or -12) plugin before Kontakt to get it in the correct keyboard note range.

So track 1 is RealGuitar BB Chords, Route Button > Sending to Track 3 Kontakt and Track 4 Midi Out

Tracks 2 is Pattern track (set in RealGuitar > Patterns > Chord > "Track") Sends to Track 1

Track 3 is Kontakt receiving from Track 1 (you can add key switches on this track for Kontakt instruments with articulations like bends slides etc.. as you can't use articulation switches in Pattern Mode in RealGuitar))

Track 4 is Midi Out write from Track 1 RealGuitar set to Setup > Output Mode > Midi

I just recorded the midi on Track 4, but there was an easier way to write the output of the item, just got to find it again.

Thanks for your help Pipeline. I just bought RealGuitar so I might have a question or two for you if you don't mind! smile
Sure no problem, I would look at this also still $12.50 https://www.groove3.com/MusicLab-tutorials/RealGuitar-Explained

1 of the videos:

Thanks for the reminder! I wanted to get this tutorial but forgot about the 1/2 off sale! $12.50 is a no-brainer for this!
Another thing you can do with RealGuitars is add articulations to the patterns by setting Track 1 RealGuitar (1) that has the chord track to Setup > Output > Midi only and Patterns > Chords > "Track" then the patterns in Track 2 will send to Track 1.

Track 3 RealGuitar (2) will be set to Midi Solo and will have a receive from Track 1 RealGuitar (1)
set the articulations in KEY SWITCHES you will be using (red button on and red dot on keyboard)
now highlight all of Track 3 > Insert > New Midi Item > double click
draw the key switch note in Track 3 at the same location as the pattern note you want to add the articulation to.
You can split the midi on Track 3 to match the patterns lenght on Track 2 then group the 2 items so you can copy the pattern/keyswitch to any other locations on the track to have the same articulation or just move the keyswitch up or down for a different articulation or left or right for a different note.

You can RG > Setup > Output > Audio to use RealGuitar sound library
or RG > Setup > Output > Midi
Reaper > Route > Send to Kontakt Track.

RealGuitar_Pattern_Articulations.mp4.jpg < right click Save Target/Link As
rename to RealGuitar_Pattern_Articulations.mp4
In Explorer you may have to go to Organize > Layout > Menu Bar
Tools > Folder Options > View > uncheck > Hide File Extensions....

I am just totally blown away by RealGuitar! Only played around with it for a few hours but I can see this is a game changer! It is easily as good as or better than any of the acoustic guitar RealTracks in my honest opinion. There are three reasons for this...1) these are very high quality samples and 2) the huge number of patterns provides seemingly endless variations and 3) an excellent humanize feature really makes it feel real!

This will be my new go-to tool for acoustic guitar tracks!! PG need to step up their game as very real competition is materializing!

This seems to be the season of the Guitar VSTi. My new NI Strummed Acostic has a fantastic sound. Lots of great new sounds available to us.
