V1
I gave you wild flowers
It was all I could afford
He had roses by the dozen
Delivered to your door
He bought you steak and lobster
When he took you out to eat
Best I could do was coffee
at the diner down the street

V2
He took you to the opera
You had champagne and caviar
I walked you to the local park
Played you songs on my guitar
He bought you diamond earrings
And he took you on a cruise
I didn't have such things to offer
had nothing left to loose

Bridge
He wore you on his arm
just like that Rolex on his wrist
He had artificial charm
And predatory gifts
I waited on the sidelines
In hopes you'd understand
That treasure ain't the way to measure
What's inside a man

V3
Now years are passed behind us
We've seen poverty and wealth
We've cherished and we've loved
Through both our sickness and our health
We've had and held each other
Through the good times and the bad
You have given more to me
Than I ever thought I'd have.

outro
Yeah I was just a poor boy
But you looked down deep inside
And saw the love and adoration
that I couldn't hide
You said a love like mine is hard to find
You gotta' grab it while you can
Cause treasure ain't the way to measure
What's inside a man

hello Redeye ...

Another really nice song. You have a good way with words and a very authentic voice. You don't weigh your songs down with unnecessary tracks, but always have everything you need. Your arrangements are superb.

If I may, one suggestion: I don't think the title "Wild Flowers" embraces the full identity of your lyric. For me, "What's Inside A Man" fully embraces the message and character of your lyric. But it's your song and you should go with what you feel is right. It's just an opinion. Please feel free to ignore!

Regardless of the title, this is a wonderful song. Loved it!

Take care ...

Alan

Thanks Alan.

I originally titled this "Treasure Ain't the Measure". I later changed it to be more "concise".

FWIW you are not the only person that has suggested the title doesn't reflect the song.
