Hi All,
Here's a little folky thing called
Old Gray Stars.
We raced in orbits
With the moon’s embrace
Three decades strong
Through time and space
Never counting the days
Just keeping the pace
Old gray stars
They’re not meant to last
They fade with the night
Now part of the past
Old gray stars
Like you and I
Blazing through seasons
As time danced in the sky
We lived in the mountains
Under evergreen pines
You held your dreams close
While I fell over mine
We put them together
Tried to push back time
Old gray stars
They’re not meant to last
They fade with the night
Now part of the past
Old gray stars
Like you and I
Blazing through seasons
As time danced in the sky
Lost in the unknown
Where destinies blend
Caught in the mystery
As time twists and bends
Old gray stars
They’re not meant to last
They fade with the night
Now part of the past
Old gray stars
Like you and I
Blazing through seasons
As time danced in the sky
Old gray stars

A soothing sound to a gentle lyric, Bob.
Lovely song
Vic
Bob...first off the track you created is so clean, distinct and clear...I love the intro...this is such a beautiful, tender ballad...there are probably plenty of 'Old Grey Stars' listening, remembering and identifying with this one...this is gorgeous!
Beautiful and touching story for us graying stars. The melody is lovely, the chorus is the highlight of this starry sky. The band is smooth and fits with your calm, yet emotional voice. I really enjoyed the soft mix. Strong contender for my all time favorite top 10 songs on the BIAB forum.
Janne
Bob,
Great album cover.
"You held your dreams close
While I fell over mine
We put them together
Tried to push back time"
I marvel.
You are SO consistently good.
You should have one of those enviable careers where you put out an album every couple of years and tour for as much of the year as you choose, playing the best "songwriter venues" through the country. No overhead. Just you and a guitar. Then for the bigger venues, bring along a small band.

Oh, I disagree with ya, Bob. This is more of a folk thingy --and it's a really good one. Cool vocal and I love the lyrics --they roll out so easily and you sing them so well with the same feel. The picking and electric piano sound so good together. Good mix, too.
Great song and lyrics, Robert. Your dry voice is perfect for it.
SOOO easy to listen to...........just rolls along in the most pleasant way!!! One of your best for sure!!! And maybe your best vocal!!! Take care. Greg
Such a gorgeous song. My biggest complement I can offer about the instrumentation is that it supported the vocals perfectly. Nicely done!
Bob, this is fantastic.
Great vocal and backing band.
Super mix.
This is a song that John Prine could have written and sang and that is a huge compliment.
Loved it.
Dan,
Thank you - I appreciate that.
Bob
Great build. The music does a grey job supporting the lyric.
You did an awesome job intertwining the instruments, and shifting things around with the arrangement.
As usual, evocative lyrics well sung. You really know how to write a lyric.
Sad and lovely.
There's nothing to add that hasn't already been said ... I love your lyrics and how you deliver them, and a sparse arrangement that frames your vocals perfectly.
VERY good!
Janne,
That's very kind of you. Thanks so much.
Bob
Floyd,
That is very kind and appreciated. Thank you.
Bob
There is no one on the forum with more poetry in their songs than you. A great listen! Love your melodies and lyrics, Tom
Lovely.
Mind you I read ahead a bit and did so in my South Eastern Australian accent which has "They’re not meant to last, They fade with the night, Now part of the past..." as larst and parsed so when you caught up with me I had a jolt. 2nd listen & I wasn't so presumptuous so it flowed like stars across the night sky...smooth, unassailable and comfortingly constant as seen from my life span.
WaoBand,
Thanks - much appreciated.
Bob
"Lost in the unknown Where destinies blend
Caught in the mystery As time twists and bends"
Love that! Bob I really like this tender ballad! The lyrics, melody and chord progression! It's a beautiful song! You just keep knocking out very good work at a fast rate! Wish I could do that!
Thanks, TB
Bob,
Another great offering from you . . . such a pro sounding production . . . just really good stuff. Beautiful write as well, compelling vocal as always. Floyd has it right . . . you should have one of those enviable careers.
Best regards,
Deej
Great title, and a beautiful idea, beautifully executed.
Well done sir. Love these gorgeous lyrics.

Thank you - very appreciated.
Bob

Bob,
Smooth musical bed. Very good instrument choices. Excellent poetic, slightly sad lyrics. Well performed. Mix is clear and listens well.
Thank you for sharing.
Misha.
David,
That's very kind - thanks so much.
Bob
Sir, you are a POET.
One of the most beautiful songs I have heard on this forum. The lyrics are extraordinarily beautiful and poetic, the music is stunning (minimalistic or otherwise), its calm nature reminding me of one of the more serene Preludes by J. S. Bach. And the performance is also heavenly ... that hoarse voice of yours somehow adding to the calm (on the surface, at least) nature of the song.
Bravo. Loved it.
Tom,
Much appreciated - thanks so much.
Bob
Hi Bob,
A very touching song with those beautiful lyrics, the gray stars...
Very well done!
I'm getting emotional, so it must be a good song, Bob
Hans
What a sweet, sweet song. Your vocals are perfect for the lyrics and the band lets the vocals shine.
Great work.
Mike
Ray,
I appreciate that - thanks.
Bob
First what a great arrangement, especially near the end. Wow!
Your vocal gives the lyric an abundance of pure soul.
The electric piano is perfect for the open, airy and laid back mix. Love it.
We were gonna quote some fav sections of the lyric but Janice said we'd have to quote it in it's entirety.
That really hit home with us seniors ... another Wow!
Enjoyed it!
J&B

Bob
Bob ...
A lyric like this is so rare - magical in its inception and humbly provocative in its delivery.
My star is very gray - closing in on 80 years old. But I've seen and done some things very few folks will ever have a chance to experience. For that, I am grateful. hearting your music is high on that list.
Wishing you the very best,
Alan
Janice & Bud,

I really like the lyrics on this. One of your best imho. Kudos on the instrumentation that goes well with the gentle melody. Nice work!
