Hi All,
Here's something folky and mellow for my last song of the year.
This is called
Looks Like Snow.
Saw a red fox run by the wood shed today
The morning light made his coat look gray
He caught my eye as he went below
As if to say it looks like snow
Heard the wind last night blow through the eves
Rattle the pines and bend all the trees
The river runs but it’s running low
The weather guy says it looks like snow
I let the faucet drip like a grandfather clock
Only 8 degrees it’s too cold for a walk
Our Navajo blanket and a murder of crows
Tell me tonight that it looks like snow
You moved in the spring with the fields still brown
The lights went dark all over our town
Yeah the light and the dark like partners in crime
Keep the days and the nights frozen in time
Saw a message this morning 5:02am
I wrote you back but didn’t press send
The moon is still up and the fox laying low
I’ll come back later cause it looks like snow
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na

Bob, this is beautiful! Very evocative lyrics...I got a bit of a chill while listening. Those BiaB tracks sound very natural and you sing it with real feeling. Great tune, thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas! Ron
Bob,
You are one of the best lyricists I've ever had a chance to listen to. You're a word magician, my friend. Just marvelous. And I like that you have brought your vocal a little more forward than you typically do. I'd type more, but I'm all out of superlatives. I could listen to your stuff forever.
Merry Christmas,
Alan
Ron,
That's very kind and appreciated. Thank you. Merry Christmas to you also Ron.
Bob
Nice way to close out the year, Bob, lovely song!
Hope you and yours have a great Christmas.
Mellow folk are my kind o' folk. AND you always write such wonderful songs with them in mind. Only a special song composed and recorded by a special talent could be presented so stripped of all the glitter. Extraordinary lyrics paint the picture that goes so well with this wonderful tune, Bob. Merry Christmas to you, and now I await your first song of '24.
Quality Song Writing.
Might be your best ever. And That is Saying a Lot.
Quality Production.
Just the Right Band. Like y'all have been doing this for decades.
Quality Vocal.
You make it sound like these thoughts just naturally flow from your brain as you play the guitar.
This is a real gem.

Very well put together and VERY well written. I do a lot of 15 track BIB/Studio One walls of sound but sometimes less is really more and this song proves it. I loved it.
Rick
I like that it's stripped down, Bob.
There's a lot depending on the lyric here and it works well.
One thing I was wanting to hear was a couple of bars of reflective instrumental break between 1st. and 2nd. verses.
Another good one.
Vic
Alan,
You are always very kind. I appreciate the time you take to listen and comment. Merry Christmas to you and Di.
Bob
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to your song Robert. The simple musical arrangement and thoughtful choice of instrumentation provide the perfect backing
for your vocal, and allow the lyrics to come right to the fore.
As for the lyrics themselves, I feel as though I'm there with you as you're describing those scenes. It's clear that the lyrics are what you wanted the listener to
focus on and you definitely succeeded with me. They are vivid and engaging. In fact, they compelled me to play the song twice.
I love the production, it sounds like you're sitting around making music with a bunch of buddies. It all sounds so natural.
And, needless to say, how effortless the lyrics sound.
Perfect
Dave,
I appreciate that - thanks. Merry Christmas to you and your family as well.
Bob
Bob, your best to date IMHO.
Outstanding vocal with the perfect backing band, i.e. less is more.
The mix is perfect.
I could see John Prine doing this one, only not as good as the way you did it.
Loved it.
Marty,
Thanks so much - it is very appreciated. Merry Christmas to you.
Bob
You have proven again that less is more. This is among your top writes. Delivered with great feeling. Stay warm and happy holidays,Tom
Floyd,
That’s very kind and means a lot. Thanks.

Bob...this is beautiful...the track is exquisite...love the acoustic and gentle rhythm...brilliant lyrics...they paint such a tranquil and peaceful scene...loved it!
rsdean,
Great mellow folk!
The lyrics are also great.
The singing style is also perfect for this song.
Although the accompaniment is simple, the acoustic guitar is used very effectively, enlivening the mood of this song.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.
Shigeki Adachi
Brian,
Thanks - much appreciated.
Bob
Mario,
That’s very kind. Thank you.
Bob
Bob,
Good one to end the year with. Ha, my Momgas a fox living under her shed from time to time, so love that first line. Imagery is excellent in this write. You can see it all. Great atmosphere, accentuated by a great vocal and crisp production. Excellent!
Oh, and love that “na na na” fade out.
Deej
I pondered "red fox" before finding out that they aren't all read and even those that aren't aren't that way all of the time. The learning continues.
Lovely song, well presented.
Tom,
Thanks very much - I appreciate that. Happy Holidays.
Bob
Hi Bob,
Love it!
As always, your words create wonderful images for the listener.
You're an artist who paints with words.
Really fine work.
All the best for Christmas and beyond!
--Noel
A really lovely song and I particularly [*****] the sound of those guitars. Like DC Ron said, they come across as natural, so I was surprised they were BiaB.
David,
Thank you - I appreciate that.
Bob
Andi,
Thanks very much.
Bob
Shigeki,

Bob
Ray,

Bob
Noel,
Thanks for the kind words. Happy Holidays.
Bob
Nice, Bob! Consider moving the stanza with the melodic lift to be the third stanza; rules are made to break, of course, but sticking to the rule of two may be warranted since this is a slower piece. Good lyrics with some cool furniture!
Dewey
Exceptional lyric writing. Love that acoustic. I'll have to use that sometime.
"I let the faucet drip like a grandfather clock
Only 8 degrees it’s too cold for a walk
Our Navajo blanket and a murder of crows
Tell me tonight that it looks like snow"
Terrific imagery!
You have such a wonderful conversational tone in so many songs and often we’re reminded of Lucinda Williams.
The vocal change at the “spring” verse was very effective in bringing to mind the vivid scenery change.
The outro “na na’s” were great too.
Perfect band for the lyric.
Merry Christmas!
J&B

Hi Bob,
What a wonderful song you made!
The lyrics are beautiful. I really like the picture you've painted in there.
And man, what a nice play on the guitar. Very nice to listen to.
I read that someone considered it to be one of your best songs.
I always hesitate to use those words. Especially since you have so many good songs.
But I do think this one belongs high on the list!
I wish you very happy days and until 2024,
Hans
Mellow like slowly falling snowflakes. Very nice imagery in the story.
What a pleasure to listen to your voice, the whole wide range.
The instrumentation supports the vocal very naturally, the percussions work perfectly.
Your recognizable style is warmly present, but still this has something new and magical that warms even more.
Janne
Janice & Bud,
I appreciate that thoughtful and kind review. Lucinda is a favorite of mine - that's a great compliment.
Merry Christmas to you.

Beautiful song Bob. Wonderful imagery in your lyrics. We are lucky to live on the edge of a forest. See wildlife all the time. Super vocal and lyric..
Scott,
Much appreciated - thanks very much.
Bob
Bob,
Very neat winter tune. Very good vocals. I read lyrics first and first verses... I though I was reading Shel Silverstein
(Please take it as a complement)
Clear mix and listens very well. Thank you for sharing.
Misha.
Misha,
Thank you. That's a very kind compliment. Much appreciated.
Bob
Bob, I could have sworn that I replied to this a long time ago.
Hmmmmmm.
Well anyway man this is another classic and I really really love the sound of those guitars. I copied this style to use it myself, this sounds wonderful.
Happy New Year!!!
David,
Thanks. I appreciate that.
