Catching Koura

Catching Koura down the creek me and Suzie just last week
It was late when we got home we aint got no telephone
Suzie makes me preen and purr but I'm not sposed to play with her

Koura hiding in the sand pretty hard to catch by hand
Make a net and set the bait lie there waiting with my mate
Koura locks on with his claw flip him out then get some more

I'm the hunter I'm the man I catch Koura when I can
Dark and spiky good to eat steamy red with sweet white meat
Everybody grabs my catch boils it up then down the hatch

I like Suzie she likes me we like catching fish for tea
We forget to fish sometimes Koura feeding on our lines
Rolling by the waterfall we don't wanna go home at all

Catching Koura down the creek me and Suzie just last week
It was late when we got home we aint got no telephone
Suzie makes me preen and purr but I'm not sposed to play with her

Richard...

I like it.

You pack a lot into your lyric. A simple observation always seems to have a big undercurrent. And it gets better all the time. There is a lot to this.

Well done.

That could be a down under 1970's John Prine tune!

You are a master of seizing moments and creating inventive
lyrics and melodies around them. This is no exception.

We enjoyed it a lot!

Really fun little ditty!! Like PG fantastic observed, I really like that line as well. I copied it before I read the comments so I guess I'll paste it.

Everybody grabs my catch boils it up then down the hatch

The song is really charming-another story very well told!! Take care. Greg

I just really liked the lyrics and it was sort of John Prine sounding. I still do some of his songs.

We got crayfish in Texas and I ate a ton of them when I was a kid but the ones you got are huge!!

Cool Song Cool Music and thanks for sharing a bit of life down under.

I would love to visit New Zealand, never got the chance yet. Bout as close as I got was this girl from New Zealand one night in Holland...but nuff said bout that...lol

Keep up the good fun work you do.

Cheers,

Billy

Hi Richard,

very entertaining. Let me quote Bud:
"You are a master of seizing moments and creating inventive lyrics and melodies around them. This is no exception."
Enjoyable listen.

Thanks Robert. Used to enjoy catching a few boiling them up then eating them dipped in vinegar.
Never met anyone who didn't like them. Cheers.

Thank you Charlie. I seem to write a lot about my childhood.
Am dredging my mind for song subjects for the challenge.
Cheers.

Thanks Floyd for your generous comments. Am trying to stick to the point with my lyrics but find my last few songs wander a bit. Oh well. I'm a long way from Nashville. Cheers.

Thanks J&B. I'm glad you enjoyed this.
It came easier and was more fun to write than usual.
Haven't listened much to John Prine but enjoyed his songs. Cheers.

Thanks Greg for those comments. I guess the past is a rich source of material.
Didn't think much of it at the time but looking back I realize I had a wonderful childhood.
Cheers.

Hi Billy. I must look up some John Prine.
That koura photo is a monster. Usually a big one is about 6 inches.
Thank you for the encouragement. Cheers.

Thanks Guenter. That is a fabulous and generous quote from Bud. I may frame that one.
It means a lot to me that you (and others) enjoy my ramblings. Cheers.

Your songs always seem to have a little sideways element to them that gives them a very distinct voice, and it's always interesting to listen to them.

So here's my suggestion: whatever you're doing, keep it up.

Thanks David. I certainly get a lot of pleasure from your comments. Cheers.

It's all been said so I will add who would have that that a song about a crayfish could be so good!

Keep them coming!

Hi Richard,

I think J&B said it perfectly when they wrote the above. You really do have the enviable skill of being able to find lyrics in the most unexpected and unusual places.

Yet again, I thoroughly enjoyed what you brought to the forum.

All the best,
Noel

Hi Rich,

We didn't know you joined the 50/90's contest. Nice!
And we almost missed this one, but we understand we can't call you to apologize laugh ?

Funny song but Rob isn't amused because he's a vegetarian frown
Apart from all that: Good work.

Hi Noel. Well it's a fun hobby that's for sure.
I truly think we should be able to write a song about anything.
Everything is unique and interesting in its own way. Cheers.

Thanks for those encouraging words Tom. Still trucking on, trucking on. Cheers.

Thanks RnAM. The 50/90 is turning into a full time job and i don't know if I want that much work.
But pushing on in the meantime.
Hi Rob. I am a lapsed vegetarian. Cheers.

Keep this up and you'll be an Honorary Cajun before you know it!

Neat song with wonderful lyrics that flow easily and contain interesting sub-plots.

Your blend of RTs makes this a very eclectic production. It's unique and all your own, but with international flavors.

Well done!

p.s. Down here they call 'em crawfish:)
