Everything Falls Apart

https://soundcloud.com/peterf1957/everything-falls-apart

The second law of thermodynamics is partially a universal law of decay; the ultimate cause of why everything ultimately falls apart and disintegrates over time…..

The original version I came up with went for nearly 8 minutes – managed to squeeze it down by half without if falling apart.

Lyrics & Vocal - Leon
I play guitar and do some backing vocals.

Everything falls apart

You spend your days scheming to advance
Will I sit this one out or will I dance?
Make a little profit, close another deal
Map out your revenge for the way she made you feel

You can’t escape the second law
You can’t escape the second law

Every mountain crumbles into dust
Every flame goes out because it must
Everything just falls apart
Every light eventually goes dark

You can’t escape the second law
You can’t escape the second law

You calculate the odds and bide your time
Stockpiling your millions and laying down your wine
An eye upon your legacy, history will be kind
The planets in the sky above are waiting to align

You can’t escape the second law
You can’t escape the second law

Every mountain crumbles into dust
Every flame goes out because it must
Everything just falls apart
Every light eventually goes dark

You can’t escape the second law
You can’t escape the second law

You live your life like it will never end
The road will always turn another bend
The sun will always come up in the east
Famine always followed by a feast

You can’t escape the second law
You can’t escape the second law

Every mountain crumbles into dust
Every flame goes out because it must
Everything just falls apart
Every light eventually goes dark

You can’t escape the second law
You can’t escape the second law

I also like the retro feel ... very much late 70's vibe. Love it!

Nice job!

Peter and Leon,

VERY cool! Really well done!

Cool write. Super production. Excellent mix.

The vocals are done very well.

This sounds like many of the bands from the '70's, but not one in particular - so... quite original!

One of your best. Excellent.

Thanks Rob - interesting co-incidence about the lyrics and current events. Lyrics written a couple of months ago.

Nice build up and original song structure.

Cool song!! I've frequently thought about thermodynamics in unconventional ways, like disorder in a messy house or overgrown garden. Or, how hard it is to maintain a competitive athletic level. This song is really well done, on an intellectual level and a musical one. Good arrangement and mix, and the song is catchy. Well done!! Take care. Greg

Nice retro feel on this one. Seldom we hear this classic organ sound now a days... Well done Peter !

But can't we escape? Well, there is generators that put out more energy that it use, so like a re-generator ? Not sure if it will apply thou...

Nice. I love a B3 had a porta-b in the 70s wish I had it today.

Hi Peter!

I like what you've done with this! It's reminiscent of so many 60's and 70's songs that advise young men to live responsibly because they can't escape the long arm of the law... but in this case you've turned the tables on us and made it one of the laws of nature!
(The long arm of the law can be bribed, but nature always gets its pound of flesh)

Several people have commented on the retro sound and that it didn't have the signature sound of any one group.. to that I'd add that it reminded me of one of those compilation albums that were often the by-product of local battles of the bands... such albums typically had the best that each band had to offer, and all of the songs had a unique sound that was consistent with what the public wanted at that point, but which wasn't a direct ripoff of anyone else's style

I liked the way you spoke parts of the words ... it added significance to those passages, and gave it gravity (nature pun intended)

But most of all I liked that kick-@$$ guitar playing at the end! Not only skilful playing, but great use of effects too! (I'm assuming that's you playing, since I've heard so much praise for your guitar playing from others here on the forum)

In conclusion I liked everything about this! Great job!

Thanks Floyd for the kind comments. Not sure I had any particular band in mind (or time frame)- I used some Jimmy Page style licks at the end which were popular in the 70's. I'll pass the comments onto my vocalist.

Well, we are glad it didn't fall apart smile because it is a terrific
listen. STRONG well delivered lines abound. Great write!
There are too many good lines to single out one.

Combine all that with the guitar, BG vocals and mix and
you end up with a very cool production -- all the way
around.

The mix sounds perfect on our monitors and on the
"big system."

Kudos!!

What can I say but "a wonderful ride"! Super creative, brings to my mind Bowie maybe a bit of Pink Floyd.

Just a super write and engaging arrangement!

Very cool. The Hammond sets things off perfectly. I love the chorus.
Top stuff.
