Just a hard luck woman
Living her life alone
Painted eyes half baptized
Surviving in the border zone

All the fools along the way
watch her pass on by
Who’s to say what harm’s been done
Behind those little white lies

Cry, cry, cry, leave her be
no one tries to find out why
So sad eyes are all they’ll see

My, my, my ain’t she strange
But if you look away a bit too soon
you might miss what still remains

(Lead)

Just a hard luck woman
rolling from town to town
No heads up or time to plan
No chance to be let down

So if you dare to take a stab
At wrestling with the sky
you might get close if you dare
or your chance might pass you by

Cry, cry, cry, don’t you see
Too few try to find out why
Something never was meant to be

My, my, my she’s so strange
But if you turn your head a bit too soon
you’re gonna miss what still remains

Further you progressed with the song the more comfortable your vocals sound.
A nice little groove going on here. I particularly enjoyed the chorus.
Good going on this.

Thank you kindly, Sir
I have to keep an eye on My Robert Zimmerman tendencies
Sometimes it makes me a little tentative

What a tune! I really love the "sultry" sort of atmosphere this one has. It's dark and mysterious in a way. Also, I like the artwork you chose for this too.

Great work on this - thanks for sharing, jyonks smile

Excellent!
Some cool slightly menacing images in the lyrics - and your vocal sounds really good- in the pocket for this laid back style.
The understated backing is just right.

John

Very nice. Has a bit of a J.J. Cale feel - thoroughly enjoyable.

Really enjoyed this, and the use of the harmonica has a captured a blues feel very well.

In particular, verse 1 opens up with really great lyrics:

- Just a hard luck woman
- Living her life alone
- Painted eyes half baptized
- Surviving in the border zone

Nice job.

Hi John,

I agree with the J.J. Cale reference. I also hear a little bit of Leon Redbone ... and for me, that's really cool! The vocal harmonies are great and really give the song some added punch. Love the edge in this ... cool song!

"Just a hard luck woman

Well, that certainly locked us in from the git-go. Great lines.

You left just the right amount of dots for the listener to connect to build the imagery.

You did a fine job of getting ev and sw RT's to work together and work well. That doesn't always happen.

The nice laid back vocal certainly contributes to the aforementioned JJ feel. We are big fans of his music.

Enjoyed the spin!

This is the kind of stuff I can listen to for hours. The feel is everything. Very well written and performed.
