Hi All,

Here's a song for a recently departed family member...

This is called Goodnight Meko.

Spring storm blowing north to the Maritimes
New York in its sights somewhere along the line
And all I can see is the distance in your eyes
The years have run out and your body is breaking down
No matter what I try I can’t bring you back around

You were born in April of 2001
We brought you home under a July sun
And the world was younger before September came
So many years have brought the past back to our door
Sometimes you still look the same as you did before

Every single day burns and fades to night
Sometimes we can’t see the dark through the light
And the end of the road is just the end of the road
Now the years they gather like black birds on a winter wire
Feather by feather they build their own horizon

Spring storm blowing north to the Maritimes
New York in it’s sights somewhere along the line
And all I can do is kiss you a final goodnight
Seventeen years like sweet distance in my mind
Running low and fast as we hand you off to time

Bob,

Your song - and your picture of Meko - broke my heart. Sorry for your loss...

A beautiful tribute, beautifully executed.

"And all I can do is kiss you a final goodnight
Seventeen years like sweet distance in my mind
Running low and fast as we hand you off to time"

Wow.

This song is so sad, yet filled with happiness at the nostalgia. It had a genuine ache to it. A really lovely tribute to a family friend.

Sorry for your loss.

Wow - this is absolutely stunning, Robert. It is all too common you hear people downplay the effect a pet has in a household, but they are most definitely a member of the family. I've lost pets too, and have felt how devastating it can be. This is a wonderful tribute, and really touched me. The song comes straight from the heart, and it is easy to tell that.

You should be very proud of this one - thanks for sharing with us smile

Bob,

A fine sensitive tribute that really made me feel the loss.
Have to share this with my wife as she went through something very similar not long ago.
Thanks for sharing such a personal song.

I've spent very, very little time in my life not living with a canine friend as Janice and I have for 37 years. We get it. 17 years was a great run.

Beyond the excellent production and heartfelt vocal lies a wonderfully well written tribute.

There's little to add to the many thoughtful and moving comments that have already been offered.

Thank you for sharing.
