I think a good idea will be jazztherory in Band in box.

Like you give some Chord changes than you have the possibility to see what is possible to play over that.

Curly, if you're talking 'Jazz', then I thought there weren't any rules smile

No, seriously, this could be useful. Not sure where to start though.

Mike Archbold's tried and true Jazz Scale Suggester System may be a starter.

Google/bing scales to play over chords and you will find a lot of information on this topic.

PS - +1 for adding this to BiaB

Also sometimes I will input chords into BiaB and have it generate a melody. I never get a complete song that I like but I do get a phrase or two that I convert into a main theme. You might want to try it.

Curlyguit, are you thinking along the lines of the Abersold booklets?

Hi Matt!

Exactly! Like a friend told me over II/V/I you can play Bebopdominat, but also Arpeggio.
What I wanna say is that - I typ in some Chords have a buttom what I push and can read or maybe also can see an hear what is possible to use. I hope with my bad english you can understand.

Try The Jazz Piano by Mark Levine. Lots of good stuff in there. Ray

This has been around for awhile. It's not exhaustive, but great for the basics.

Fellas, Mark Levine not only authored his much acclaimed Jazz Piano Book, but also the magnificent Jazz Theory Book.
