I played the source files for that RealTrack and it has a lot of reverb. This is why Direct Input only guitars are the way to go as you can add any FX you like to them, and rather than having 2 versions that take up more hard drive space, as down the track PG will have a lot of RealTracks.

Hi David, Very nice melody and backing and as always I am in awe of the Synthesizer V vocals. Sounds like a lot of work went into producing this - Well done. Best Regards Nigel

Thanks again. There is debate what is a chord, but some say, that for example G6 and D9 aren't new chords, just variations of the same chord. I found a lot of two chord songs. Here is one list: https://www.guitarbased.com/2-chord-songs/

Something fairly significant has been overlooked in this discussion... Everything I would have said was said by David in this post. I picked up BiaB MANY years ago because of the jazz facility, but it's time to adapt old conventions to popular music. No offense intended. None taken by me, at least. The "problem" is simply the two different interpretations of the word "chorus". Perhaps we need a different word, probably for we jazzers. I doubt it'll stop us using the word chorus, but we're already very familiar with the two meanings, so I personally can't see an issue, just a need for a suitable term. YMMV.

Hi, Nigel. Fun! You're vocals have attitude to spare, and it's a very enjoyable listen. All top shelf, as usual.

Falling Afternoon in late July I'm falling Hidden in tall green river grass Underneath the endless lazy sky Plovers circle boats as they pass by And I with all my heavy cares Logic and my evening prayers Abandoned all my plans They wash away like sand I am left suspended With my castles in the air Come tumbling down Down to the ground There's nothing there Just a kingdom made of cards Broken promises and hearts London Bridge is falling down We all fall down Summer's gone and snow is softly falling Somehow I'm still living in the past Gone those happy sunlit golden days Like the autumn leaves All blown away Our time has past The hour's late Old Tom rings closed Oxford's gate The closing of a door That's barred forever more (Repeat Chorus) Instruments/Effects Chain Master Buss: HoRNet ThirtyOneMK2, Lurssen Mastering Console (Pop Rock, Warmer) Lead Vocal: SynthesizerV (Oscar) Greg Wells VoiceCentric (Lead Vocal), Capital Chambers (Chorus Wide Vox) Harmony: SynthesizerV (Jun, Hayden), Capital Chambers (Chorus Wide Vox) Female Vocal: SynthesizerV (Weina), Raum Cello: 1856:Cello, Background PopCountry Ev 085 Ac. This song is yet another riff on the work of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (a.ka. Lewis Carroll). "Old Tom" refers to a bell in a tower in Oxford. I posted the original version of this song over 10 years ago. I'd always wanted to do this with better vocals, but unfortunately I'd lost all the files. One of the new features in SynthesizerV is auto-converting vocal tracks, so that got me working on it... after I had thoroughly scoured my hard drive to make sure one more time that the files weren't sitting around somewhere. I used Spleeter to split the track into vocals and backing. I was able to automatically covert the vocals, but it required a lot of corrections. It was obvious the backing track would have to be rebuilt from scratch. I used AWC to figure out the chords, and it did an OK job of it. Then I found a thread on Song Master Pro, and the demo version did a much better job figuring out the chords. The original version of the song was in C, but I adjusted it down to G to make it more singable. I tried out various vocal banks, and Oscar seemed the best fit. This version is a bit less "dreamy" than the original. As usual, I tried my best to find avoid doing real work by looking for BiaB tracks that would do the heavy lifting. The high string trio worked much better than expected, and anchored by the cello meant I didn't have to do any string parts. There are a few spots where I should probably trim the cello back a bit. For the guitars, I rendered out a normal track as well as a held strum track. I'd intended to add one more guitar part with light and pretty arpeggios, but ended up deciding the song didn't need it. I added a descant horn in a few places as well as some flutes in the first section, but left them out of the second section, which is intentionally more bare than the first half. I worked out a two part harmony for the second half, going to three part in some places, but it didn't seem to fit in well. Parts were too busy and fussy, and didn't seem to support the song. I kept a few of the parts that seemed to work, to give it a bit of change. It's a rather slow song, and I played around with bumping the tempo from 90 BPM to 95 BPM. It's probably a bit better faster, but I'd have to do a lot of adjusting to really make it work, so I called it mostly done and posted it.

Just develop your own tone(s) and quit trying to emulate some famous guitarist. YMMV Amen! You're never gonna duplicate it anyway.

That video is good for the basics. I would imagine that the beat detection in SMP can probably do something similar. (you should check that out to streamline the workflow) if it works for the songs you're trying to work on, cool. If the song has breaks, changes in time signature, Accelerando or Ritardando it is a bit more challenging, but it just means tough songs require manually mapping every bar. The map become the master timing and all audio or MIDI will follow it for all tracks. Don't forget when you map the chord changes in ACW you are essentially making a tempo map in BIAB.

There seems to be a lot of interest in K-Pop in the US. The music reminds me a lot of the music put out by US boy bands of the eighties and nineties. Groups like New Kids on the Block and NSync recorded a lot of well crafted and produced hit pop songs. The K-Pop bands are presenting pop songs that are just as good today. J-Pop (Japan Pop) is another genre that is gaining traction in the US. You make a really interesting comparison of KPOP to boy bands from the 80s and 90s. I can totally hear the similarities now that you mention it. A lot of those older American boy bands also had intricate dance routines and concepts around their image. And the high quality of the songs is consistent between them. It's cool to see how KPOP is carrying on that tradition with their own unique creative flair. I'll have to check out some JPOP too since you mentioned it's become popular as well.

@bloc-head Yeah KPOP has really blown up globally in the last few years! I had no idea about it either until I started seeing BTS perform at awards shows on American TV. It's really fascinating how massive the fanbases are. I'm always up for discovering new music, so even though I'm not super into it yet, I appreciate you sharing your experience with your daughter working with a KPOP artist. Who was it, if you don't mind me asking?

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
