Re: Song Master Pro Gordon Scott 04/15/24 09:58 AM Forum: Off-Topic Jump to new postsJump to new posts
Back to SongMaster Pro for a bit, which program I've just started exploring. I'm guessing I know the answer to this and it's "yeah, sometimes it just does that". I've been trying to analyse the Dave Brubeck band's "Take Five" and it seems to fail fairly spectacularly to do what it should. It thinks it's in 4/4 (OK, easily enough fixed) and unsurprisingly I have to correct the timing at the beginning. It looks like it probably gets the chords right. But it fails to get most of the stems anything like right. Drums are OK, bass may be OK, most other instruments are in "The Rest" apart from some occasional witterings and the odd section where it decides the Sax is a guitar. I can't say I'm surprised, really, as this always seemed a major "wow, that's incredible" and the instruments all have rich spectral content. It does transpose and adjust tempo OK, which was a large part of what I wanted, and I imagine it will work better for other pieces. I haven't seen anything yet that suggests there's a way to better tune it for generating the stems of other sounds.

Klezmer style - Freilach or bulgar sebigbos 04/15/24 09:41 AM Forum: Add-ons and UserTracks for Band-in-a-Box Jump to new postsJump to new posts
Hey there, I don't know if this is the right forum to post this, so sorry if I'm wrong here. I'm looking for a certain Klezmer style. Bulgar or Freilach. This type of song is often played polka-like and I have enough stuff for this. But Freilach is also often played in a sort of hard-rumba manner, with accent on 1, 2+ and 4. Like here: youtube.com/watch?v=jLWNqLXAcKo , a quite modern form of this type of comping, to be heard from minute 01:29 (the beginning is a hora). Has anybody a style apt for this? Maybe something is fitting that belongs to other sort of music. Maybe I already have one and just don't know it crazy. So, I would be thankful for any hint. Have a nice day, S.

Re: Yousician songs in pdf JoanneCooper 04/15/24 05:05 AM Forum: Off-Topic Jump to new postsJump to new posts
Thanks guys. Yes musiclover, Yousician tends to have melody notes way up the neck. I suppose it is to get you to learn the fret board but it also teaches you to do bends, slides and hammer ons and offs which make a solo of the melody more interesting. But still I am interested in learning how to pick out the melody within the chords. I have a friend who is a brilliant guitarist and that is how he sometimes plays. I think my approach is going to be to pick a couple of songs I like (Danny Boy/Whiskey in the Jar) and download a midi file. Then I will retain the midi melody, assign a real style and the just try to play the melody by ear along with the BIAB file. I am currently playing at a farmers market on a Saturday morning (with BIAB backing tracks) and will start inserting a few of those songs. I am really enjoying learning through Yousician but boy it is tough! I bought myself an electric guitar because you can’t “progress” unless you “pass” a previous level and I found some songs impossible on my acoustic guitar (for me😀). Thanks for the responses. The knee is getting better and hopefully I only have another two weeks on crutches.

Really nice song here. It has kind of a warm, sunny '60s radio hit feel to me, back in the days when you may have had a group like the Stone Poneys who gave a lot of attention to the parts that they used in the instrumentation and the variety of sounds in the mix, you know, the good old days. With ladies you could sing and folks who could play!!! 🙂 It has that kind of warm and happy, thoughtfully produced type of sound to me. Good job!

The option is found on the first screen that appears when one enters Preferences. It's under the "Environment Options (#1). Simply click on the dropdown menu. It's the last item in the menu (#3). [Linked Image]

Do you have acidize turned on? That drove me nuts when I exported tracks into my DAW. The key was way off until I realized what was happening.

Intriguing post. I'm not a fan of the IDEA of AI songs, even when they sound as much like modern popular music as these do. On the other hand, I'd LOVE to have AI work up my music videos. Is that weird?

There are two values that you can use. One transposes the song and chords, the other just transposes the chords.

You need to transpose the key from the transposition menu. Click where you see 'C' near the song tempo value at the top of the screen.

I didn't find a way. Implement my ideas. for example. For example, when I +1, the BAR of BIAB still displays C, but the shift-enter sound is Db.

Hi, Brian. Nice song - singing and arrangement. I was a bit confused with this rather fantastical description:    But in the dead of night    When the moon is at it's height    Ghouls drift around all dressed up in white ...since it didn't seem to fit in with the rest of the song. 17 years being gravedigger? That's a lot of backhoe work!

HI, Janice and Bud. Pleasant '70s pop sound. Easy listening! As usual, Janice's vocal is excellent, as it the harmony. The horns were a treat, and the sitar with the descending riff had me laughing! smile some days ole sol can be too bright... My favorite trivia question that people know the answer to, but often forget: "What's the name of our sun?" The "bonus" trivia question is, of course, "What's he name of Earth's moon?" laugh

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
