Hi, really new to BIAB (2007 version) and can't find anything in other posts. All I want to do is enter one note at a time, but BIAB seems to think I want a whole bar (like predictive text on a phone). Is this possible? Sorry if its an idiot question. Thanks - Z

You despair too soon. Just keep going, entering more notes where you want them. The long notes first entered will automatically shorten themselves to fit the space allotted.
People find this odd for about 80 seconds. Then they realize it's the best way ever invented to enter notes on a computer screen with a mouse. It's unique in notation software, which is sad.

As allis says "persevere".............it's worthwhile.......I was used to using Sibelius for notation.....now I use BIAB a lot, as I can have the notation & chords together more easily. With BIAB at the start, what I did was .........put 2 half-notes in a bar...next bar 4 quarter notes....next bar 8 eighth notes ...then a bar of triplets etc. Also experiment with putting rests in.......sometimes I put the note in, then change it to a rest when I've inserted the other notes. You'll find it becomes easy after a very short time. Joe G.

Don't forget about the piano roll editor. Very nice for precision note entry.

Hi
things that are said to be simple are always very complex when you first look at them but as you progress this system of notation is the most simple of all notation entry i wish that people who make the manuals would would not say this, what i would like is for somebody to be able to write a manual that shows just how simple something really is but nobody seems capable in doing this, you get a complex about if this is so simple why am i such a numpty in understanding how to do it and all manuals are the same what is needed is the experts write the manual with the help of somebody who knows nothing and maybe we would end up with a manual that would really be a help and i belive that the BIAB manual is one of the better manuals I have just tried to start learning Ableton live and realize that im just not intelligent enough or isit that the manual does not tell you right from the start things in the right order for me to get to grips with it at the moment i have given up but i am told how easy this program is
regards Dave Hoskins
I always play the right notes but not always in the right order

Thanks, I see what you mean about just entering the next note and doing that will change the previous one, sometimes it does what I want, mostly not! I find triplets are nigh on impossible to force, and it inserts rests and ties where I dont want them - if I delete them, then the existing notes change too - grrr! Haven't tried the piano roll tutorial yet, but I think I may get even more confused.
I will persevere for a while longer though, it's really clever, but unfortunately I am not :-)
thanks all Z

Hi Z,
You might find the easier way to enter triplets is in > Editable Notation mode > open Opt and in the top left hand box of the > Notation Windows Options > check > Triplet Resolution which makes entering triplets very simple
It may fit in with what you are doing
Also,to stop losing the original entered note which is "tied" - just click on the last repeated note which then separates it from the original entry jazzman

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
