I just received BIAB 2010 on a USB drive. I want to uninstall all of BIAB 2009 on my C drive and then see if I have 80GB free to install version 2010. After running the BIAB uninstall program from the Windows Start Menu, I found that I still had 20 G of programs still in the BB folder. Then I found sparate uninstall programs for Real Drums and Real Tracks. I uninstalled each of those and I still have 600 MB in the BB folder. This seems like an awkward way to uninstall a program and I still have 600 MB of stuff installed ?

What do I need to do to have a clean uninstall of BIAB 2009 so I can check the room on my C drive and make a decision about how much room I will have to install version 2010 ?? I have a feeling that somebody will recommend that I delete my "bb" folder but I am nervious about doing that? Are there any instructions that describe a complete uninstall of BIAB 2009 ??

Long-term users of BIAB always recommend that the best way to install an uprade/new version is simply to install straight over the top of the previous version. You don't need to have a separate installation. Doing it this way means that you keep your customizations as well songs and styles that you might have put together. I've been following this advice and installing new versions since ver. 2006 without any problem.

Ditto Noel96, install on the top of the old version. If you just want to test 2010 before throwing out the older version you can run it from the usb drive, or install it all into a new folder on your computer. The 600 mbs you have left shouldn't make much of a difference. If your drive is so full that it does, you might run into other problems related to running out of free space. Free space equal to about 10 percent of total disk size should be a minimum to make sure things run smoothly, not just with BIAB but with everything.
The Windows uninstall routines really don't know much about BIAB because it doesn't write to the reg, so you can copy it over and run it (with the exception of the dxi synth). I think the old delete is what you will end up doing, but even at that it might end up in the recycle bin still taking up the space until you empty the bin (if file size is too big for the recycle bin it will tell you so and if you continue with the delete it will be gone and actually free up the space).
Good luck.

BIAB/RB do not require that you run an uninstaller. Just DELETE the BB & RealBand folders. The programs do not write to the registry.

That's all correct info.

But don't delete your old bb folder as it likely contains addons purchased before and also your own song folders, which you should want to keep with the new version.

Just install the new version right overtop of the old and you keep everything you had in there intact, plus get all the new stuff.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
