Hi,

Can someone tell me the best way to regenerate a midi bass part for the following. In a song that has 3 chorus parts. I want to change 2 measures of bass notes in chorus 2. It would be nice to keep it in the same style but if I have to change the style, no problem. I guess I could write in the bass notes but I would like to hear what BIAB can do. I opened it in real tracks but can't figure out how to get in to the 2nd chorus or what to do next.

Thanks!

RB would be the easiest place to try this, no question.

But when you open a BB song in RB, you don't get choruses, the entire song is laid out along the timeline. Which is the point of RB, actually. So do the arithmetic to find out the actual bar number for your target bar in chorus 2 of the BB arrangement and then scroll in RB to that point in the Tracks View. Highlight just the number of bars you want to redo and choose the regenerate option. It must be on the proper BB engine track in RB to do this, but it should open that way anyway since it is a BB songfile. You can also do it again and again in that spot if you wish.

Hi Mac,

I assume you're talking about the regenerate option when you right click in tracks view? When I do that at the bottom it says (none) (selected region). When I do this with RT it will say (bass) (selected region) I have the bass track highlighted. Is this the area you're talking about? I don't see regeneration in the help index.

Thanks!

Hi Gary,

I use an alternative approach when refining the musical sound of a track. What I do is this...
  • In RB, open a style that has the bass I'm wanting.
  • Right-click on one of the unused tracks (these have "untitled" in black text).
  • Select "Generate MIDI track" >> Bass.
  • Repeat this process for two or three tracks.

The reason I do this is because it now gives me a few tracks from which I can copy and paste bars to build a single track, compiled track. It takes a little more time than simply working on two bars but when I do it this way, I find that having more choice is very beneficial. For me, the end result has always justified the little bit of extra time.

Regards,
Noel

Hi,

I guess I understand what you're saying but I'm happy with all 3 chorus parts except for 2 measures in the second chorus. I was able to take your directions though and go to an empty track and generate midi bass for 2 measures. I have all tracks muted except the new midi bass and it's playing acoustic bass 33 but it has a piano sound on the higher octave notes, where is the piano coming from?

Thanks,
Gary

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
