I was listening to some of the RT demos and came across _POPVANC Demo (ALL REALTRACKS - AcPianoPopVancouver].SGU in the RT - Demos\61 folder. It is a RT piano only style. Here's the first strange bit. Although it's a RT piano only the bass and drums were yellow indicating midi tracks although they don't play. Wierd. Any ideas why?

I thought that nice piano would make a good intro for pop or light rock so I tried using F5 on the first bar of the repeat (bar 5). I entered a style change to _ELECROK for all choruses. When I click play I get the message 'unable to pick drum audio bar for bar #101.

When the song compiles and starts playing there is an unsynchronised midi drum playing from bar 4. Now I understand why the drums come in a bar early because there's a part marker on bar 5 but why doesn't the RD compile and play? And why is the midi drum out of sync?

Can anyone duplicate this behavior? Does anyone know what's happening?

Thanks.

Bump!

Anyone have any ideas on this one? Or can you perhaps duplicate it so I know I'm not doing something wrong?

Hi pwarren,

I have just opened the style _POPVANC and the loaded the demo song. As you say, the style is solo piano. On my computer the drums were yellow. When I went to Styles | Style Maker | Edit current style, I notice that there were no patterns to be played for anything other than the count-in. To my mind, this is in keeping with a solo piano style. With this in mind, it might pay to have a look at the patterns in the style for _ELECROK and see if any are there that can be played.

Hope this gives you some ideas,
Noel

Thanks. That confirms the first part. Drums showed yellow. That makes sense since you need a count in and that has to be in the drums pattern. I wonder why you need the empty bass pattern though. Anyway that isn't too important. I just wanted to be sure that was expected behaviour.

Did you try putting the style change in bar 1? That is more of a problem. An error message comes up regarding RD creation and the midi drums that get substituted seem to be out of sync, or maybe just a really bad fit.

I noticed the yellow MIDI incicators on a track or two of an "All Realtracks" style before.

Apparently, it is because the style was based on modifying an existing MIDI style and somehow taking the MIDI data out of it, but it leaves the Track Names in yellow nonetheless. But I have never heard one of 'em play anything when they are there.

Thanks Mac. I had come to that conclusion as well.

As for the other issue, I have figured it out. It's not the F5 feature. There are some RD tracks that have some kind of generating error in them. RockHardModernEv8^ is one. When the RD didn't load a midi drum was substituted which sounded really bad with the RTs. I loaded the latest upgrade and the message was still generated but the drums at least played.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
