i DON'T KNOW, BUT I'm sure the VSC-DXI SOUND SYTHN THATS WORKS IN Windows Vista is a Roland creation. I have BIAB 2012 installed on my old PC using Windows Vista. I have heard Roland synths won't work in Windows 7? Does that mean just the Roland VSC or the Roland VSC-DXI as well?? This is confusing? Roland sythns are the only good sythns that give you a clear guitar sound. The MS GS wavetable sounds bad. So do ANY of the synths work clearly in Windows 7 for midi output. BTW, I couldn't even get the Coyote forte to work.So thats a junk sythn as well as MS GS wavetable. If you guys know of a sythn that will palback clearly in Windows 7,let this BIAB user know please. Thanks

The VSC/DXi will work in 32-bit operating systems but no 64-bit ones. I suspect that you version of Vista is 32-bits and your version of Win 7 is 64-bit.

I'm surprised that you cannot get Coyote Forte to work as that functions on 32-bit as well 64-bit operating systems. Cakewalk's TTS-1 also works on both types of system.

How did you set up Forte? Did you download the latest version from PG Music?

Regards
Noel

There are 2 coyote synth versions that work in Windows 7. I have windows 7 / 64, and am a senior citizen, deaf, and have cataracts. I was just a firefighter in real life but without the help of my kids I can get both of them to work just fine.

Of course I am also civil and that means I can get help here if I need it.

Perhaps it's because the software is Canadian and so am I so it's an some evil thing.

Of course it could be the cold has made us a smarter race I'm thinking of moving North even more, Glow-ball warming 'might' be coming.

The Coyote WT I tried to get to work was in the new BIAB 2012 mega upgrade pacckage I got from PG music. I simply clicked on the VST-DXI box in the midi options and a new window appeareed.I selected Coyote and then closed out the window and also closed out my midi options window. Nothing changed at all.Coyote Forte doesn't work period. Because I have Windows Vista I swithed back to VSC-DXI and that works great. You fellas said VSC-DXI will work in Windows 7 in a 32 bit system. That gives me some hope if this old Pc dies. Thanks for your imput.BTW, what midi output sythn are you guys using?

roland vsc-dxi on one old computer.

I have never had a problem with Coyote, and Norm, the creator, hangs out here off and on.

The first thing most guys will tell you is to open your audio devices gizmo, and find the midi and other volumes, and turn them all the way up. Just remember that when you put on headphones for youtube. Eardrums can break.

Many a time there is a setting inside the dxi where you find sliders. Vista was notorious for resetting the volumes all to zero, and no reason I ever found solved it. You just figured it out one day, jacked them all back up and it worked for months.

I'm surprised you couldn't get Coyote to work.

I'm sure you realize it, but there are two different Coyote products. BIAB should automatically install the Coyote WT (WaveTable), which is just a DXi wrapper for the sounds Microsoft provides with your OS), so it sounds the same as the MS GS synth (but allows you to use it as if it were a DXi synth).

There is also the Coyote Forte, which comes as a 30-day trial. The clock starts ticking as soon as you install it. At the end of 30 days, you need to buy a $40 license key to keep using it. There are lots of folks here on the forum that use it all the time in various Windows installations, so I wouldn't say its a junk synth. I've used it on Windows XP, Windows Vista 32-bit, Windows 7 32-bit, and Windows 7 64-bit, on three different computers with different motherboards and different soundcards, so I know it works.

Make sure it is installed (there is an installer on the disk or drive you received from PGMusic). Once installed, you should be able to select it as your default synth. You might need to rescan your DX plugins to make sure it shows up. Also, you need to reboot after installing it. (What?!? Reboot?!? I never reboot; you shouldn't have to reboot. I'd rather spend 2 weeks on the forum figuring out how to make it work without rebooting than spend two minutes rebooting the computer - sorry, rant over, but I've heard that too much). I know that when I didn't reboot, Forte did not work properly until I did.

Something is amiss if it's not working for you, but Forte went through extensive testing an lots of folks are using it successfully. If there truly is a bug, I bet Norm from Coyote (he's the Peter Gannon of Coyote) will help you work through it. I know that's happened in the past.

Let us know, so we can help you figure it out.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
