The PGM 5 and 10 band equalizers allow very coarse gain / attenuation at (relatively few) different frequency values.
The problem I find is that when adjusting the sliders, there is no visual indication of the amount of gain applied.
Is there a way to accurately set this to a known value, and identify that the adjustment is accurately set?
Without getting too involved in SPL and absolute logarithmic values, +6 db is a significant change, IIRC perceived as doubling the sound level to the human ear.
What is the way to see what the slider changes values are?

Your Hi Freq slider is set to aprox 2dB over unity in that screenshot.
The freq ranges are set up in octaves, with more than one octave being covered by the 5 band as vs the 10 band. Bear in mind that the term, "octave" here is not referenced to musical notes from the Tempered Scale, but to frequency ranges. In the true sense of the physic, then, an octave is merely double the first frequency, no matter where that first frequency is placed.
yeah... the GUI should display a bit more accurately...but, in reality, I very rarely set anything using the numbers anyway.... it's always by ear.
There are 3rd party EQ's and other FX's that do display the values of each fader so you know what value you are working with.
My big nit with that particular EQ is not that it doesn't show the value in db of the fader, but more importantly, it's not showing the frequency band I'm actually working on.
Lo, lo mid, mid, hi mid, hi.... what exactly does THAT mean?
You don't know, and further, you can't adjust the Q or the center point of a given band.
I would not use that EQ. And I don't.
For EQ, I like some of the cakewalk default EQ's in my DAW, and the Sonitus EQ as well as Ozone's 3rd party (but considerably more expensive) EQ's. As plugs installed on my DAW, I can, if I wish, plug them in to BB/RB, although I actually prefer not to plug anything in to BB/RB, working instead in my DAW later with them.
Hope that is useful info for you.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.com Add nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both.
The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.
In the third slot insert PGMusic RTA (realtime analyzer) Then you can 'see' your changes, which I think was what you were wanting to do.
This is a handy tool, much like the 'Bars' view in Win Media Player when you want a quick glimpse of what is happening.
Win Media Player Bars view doesn't show the frequency range at the bottom, but after using the PG RTA plugin a few times I can make the corresponding 'visual' association quite easily.

Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Thanks rharv, that's a great tip.
Like Herb mentioned, I think I won't be using that particular plugin, although the 10 band plug in does give some idea of frequency, so at least I can see what frequency range is controlled by each slider scale. Not knowing the Q value is also a problem. I'll keep looking...

One of the first EQ plugins I downloaded was A0 EQ ( capital A zero) It still runs on W7. It is much more graphical than the PGMusic EQ's. Another more current one is Reapers EQ, included in their free FX bundle.

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
