Several questions.
1. I've created BIAB files in my old 2006 version and the song files are in my c:/bb folder on my internal hard drive. Do I need to move those to my Everything Pak USB hard drive somewhere? If so, where should I put them?
2. I have HyBrid styles made from 2006 and earlier on my internal hard drive. Do i need to move those to somewhere on my E Pak USB drive? Where to?
3. If I where to install the E Pak onto my internal hard drive, which is not my first choice option, is it going to over write my BIAB 2006? Will it keep all my songs and hybrid styles and put them where they belong? Will RealBand whipe out and over write Power Tracks 10?
4. How do I find how much hard drive space I have on my computer?
5. How much space do I need if I where to install it all on my hard drive.

Next; Decompressing the "WMA" RealDrums and RealTracks styles... Right now all the program features are still on the USB drive... If I allow these WMA files to decompress to WAV where will they decompress to? Will they stay on the USB drive or will they go somewhere onto my internal hard drive? How do I make sure i have enough room on my internal hard drive?

Ultimately I'd like to run everything off of the USB hard drive if this is feasable. But I'm pretty sure it's not going to hold all my files. And, it seems like I had a much easier time navigating to my home made song files and loading them into BIAB when the whole thing was on my one same internal hard drive.
Please offer some suggestions for me.
Thanks

The installer for the external drive will offer you options. The one you want is to install band in a box BUT set it to the drive letter of the new drive.

For example plug in the drive and if it comes as Drive E: or F: then tell it to operate from there. It will just install some fonts and plug-in\s.

Now go to your C:\BB directory and all your songs should be there and run fine.

You don't need any more hard drive space.

That said, IF you have RealInstruments from last year's version, you can shrink the files, the new engine doesn't need all of them and you save A LOT of Disk space. Then you can run the program from your computer, not the external black drive.

Song files are very very small.

The downside of running the program this way is that your styles need to be moved, that is the ones you did.

There is another consideration, you need to be cautions because your computer may have some issues with the new format of sound files if it is slow.

To be honest, given the questions you are asking, I'd wait a few days and call PG music and have someone walk you through things and explain them.

In the future I suggest never saving songs in the Band in a Box directory. I have about 20 folders of songs by genre, for example one for Christmas songs. Much easier to manage. Then I have song folders for sets. I'd start moving them in my spare time. Using a USB pen drive is a good way to store songs, and then organize them later. It also gives you a backup. I have a bunch of those in little envelopes...

So:
1. Is your computer able to handle the new task.
2. Band in a Box will not destroy anything presently on C:\bb, it will just install a pointer to the external drive if that's what you tell it to do.

I'd give that a shot, install it to E: or whatever letter you get, it will ignore what's in your drive for now. You can change that back if you run into trouble.

Update. Got it figured out. I run BIAB from the external drive due to limited space on my internal hard drive. And, I made folders on my internal hard drive to save my different song types to. Then once I've got a song mixed down to 2 tracks and in MP3 or .wav format I back up my BIAB songs to an external 1 TB drive for storage when more space is need.
I guess I did know I could have my song projects on a different drive than the BIAB external drive or not. But, now I understand.

About decompressing the .WMA files, a few comments. First, there is no real need to do it. It does not improve the sound. It no longer gives enough of a loading speed benefit to matter.

Second, if you decide to do it anyway, then to determine the size, remember that the compression BIAB uses to create the .WMA files means that an uncompressed .WAV file of that .WMA file will take up approximately 11 times the size.

Tobias,
John has been passed away for about 3 years now. You waited quite a while to respond to him.
Thanks for bringing back his memory though. smile

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
