Very unlikely, but perhaps your other file was open? Less likely, it was turned read-only? The test of these would be to Save As and use another file name.

Wow, I've not seen that before. As Matt indicated, I would definitely try a "save as" and also make sure that you are saving back to the same folder you opened the song from. It's also possible the file got corrupted somehow, so changing names may help as well.

Wendy,

One thing that's worth trying...

1. Open the misbehaving file in Realband.

2. Don't alter it in any way.

3. Using Realband, save it as an SGU file with a new name so that you don't overwrite the original file.

4. Now open the file saved from Realband in BIAB and see if it works.

I've tried the above a few times when I get a file that doesn't behave properly and it's worked for me.

Regards,
Noel

Did the new file really save as a SGU file? It's always possible that you picked a new style that was one of the old built-in ones and it changed to a SG1 (or some other number) file.

Or did you add a melody and it became a MGU file?

Or did you really save it to the same directory?

Check the recently loaded songs list in BIAB and see if there are two songs in different places

Do a search of your disk for files with a similar name and see if the new one is somewhere else.

HTH

Andy

It all helped guys. It IS an SGU file,Andy.I dont have any Melody in it either. it was just chords and instruments. However, I did open it in RB as suggested which took ages for some reason and it WAS my original unchanged file. I made the same changes as I did in BB but saved it as MerryChristmas1 in RB. Shut down the PC,rebooted it and opened BB and opened the NEW file and YES! all the changes are there. Many many thanks.

Wendy,

I'm glad the Realband journey worked for.

It's very rare, but every once in a while a BIAB file can get 'corrupted'. By 'corrupted', I mean that it doesn't work as it once did. I've only had this happen a couple of times in a decade.

Opening and re-saving the file in Realband often strips away whatever caused the issue. It's a strategy to keep in mind.

I see that you took it one step further and made changes in Realband. Good thinking! I don't usually do that. I'll keep it in mind, now.

Lastly, what I always do these days is, as soon as I get a file that's sounding ok, I save it with a new name. Then when I get to another point where I like it, I save it with another new name. My sequence is usually something like songfile1.sgu, songfile2.sgu, songfile3.sgu, etc. As a song nears completion, I often have around 20 versions of the song. Since SGU files are so small, they take up very little space on the computer. The advantage of doing this is that if I get a file that stops working, I have lots of backups to call on.

All the best,
Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
