I recently upgraded to band in a box 2018 from band in a box 2014. When I try to open my BiaB 2014 files in 2018 the files were no longer there. Instead
there is a folder labeled E00, opening that folder there are two more folders labeled d00 and d01. In d00 there are a large number of .AUF files with a size of 13k, the samething occurred in the d01 folder. My original file is gone. Before I try to open any of my other 2014 files I need some help in determining how the 2014 files can be retrieved. Thank you

Welcome to the forum. The installation of version 2018 reorganizes the files in the /BB folder but does NOT delete anything. Your songs should still be there.

I'm not at a PC at the moment, but I'll post again if someone else doesn't answer first.

In BiaB 2018, a significant number of files that previously resided in the x:\bb folder have now been moved to sub-folders.

My understanding is that only native BiaB files are moved (not files created by the users, etc).

What was the name of one of the files that you attempted to open? If you know the name, you can search for it through Windows Explorer, and that will show the location of the file.

Have you installed 2018 over the top of 2014, or did you choose a separate location for the 2018 installation?

Dear videotrack, I have the Band-In-A-Box hard drive, I have not installed Band in the Box on my computer. I've had hard drive versions of 2011 and 2014 prior to this, I can't remember having a problem going from 2011 to 2014. I have all of my band in a box files in a separate sub folder on an external hard drive.

Hi jpi68

I'm getting more confused here, so let's go back to basics.

You mentioned: "When I try to open my BiaB 2014 files in 2018 the files were no longer there."

My understanding is the the 2014 drive is disconnected and that you are now using a new 2018 USB drive. Would that be correct?

Did you move any of your own files from the 2014 drive to the 2018 drive?

What are the names of some of the files that you are looking for that aren't available?

You also mentioned: "I have all of my band in a box files in a separate sub folder on an external hard drive."

Is that external hard drive you are referring to the 2018 drive, or the 2014 drive, or another drive altogether?

Sorry It apears I wasn't clear,

Since 2011, 2014 and now 2018 I have always purchased/used BIAB hard drives, and have not loaded BIAB on my computer, I.e., I operate band in a box from its own hard drive.

I keep all of my music data files (including my BIAB song files) on a separate seagate external hard drive. I have been doing this for years without problem.

I disconnected my version 2014 and then connected my version 2018 and when i went to open up a song file that I created in 2014, I found out that the file had become corrupted. As I write this it doesn't appear to make any sense. I don't see how changing out the band in a box hard drives could affect a saved file.

Thanks for the clarifications, it's a lot clearer now.

You are correct to assume that changing to BiaB 2018 should not have corrupted any of your previous song files.

Is there any message that is associated with the corrupted file(s)?

Are all files that you have tried corrupted, or only a limited few?

Presumably the drive allocation letter hasn't changed and you are still 'pointing' to the correct song files on the Seagate drive when you open a song file?

Lastly, presuming that you have the Windows version, you could try to 'restore' a faulty file using RealBand.
1: Start RealBand and open one of the faulty files in RealBand.

2: After it loads (takes longer initially in RealBand), Save it as a BiaB file but with a different name so that you don't overwrite your original.

3: Close RealBand, start BiaB and attempt to open the new song file.

These sound like folders automatically created by Audacity.
Do you use Audacity?
Could it be that you are searching in the wrong location for song files with the same name as your BiaB song files?

I do have audacity, but the file that I created for audacity was untouched.

Well I don't know what happened but I was able to recreate my BIAB file from a hard copy of my chord sheet and some drag and drop PDF files that had all of the real instruments that I used in each track.

However, I am still concerned that the same thing might have happened to all my other BIAB files, I have dozens, if not hundreds....I've been afraid to look...

I just opened one of my other files and it opened flawlessly... I don't know what happened to the first file that I tried to open, but this one was fine.

I am thinking that what might have happened is that the original file that had the problem may have been open when I made the change over to 2018 and became corrupted when I shut it down. That must be what happened...

Thank you all for your help on this issue.

I've been laid up after back surgery and had a number of projects that I wanted to work on in my convalescence. For a moment there I thought I was going to be fixing problems instead of moving forward.

Thanks

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
