Is anyone else having this problem?

Amplitube loads and runs fine with ASIO4All as my audio driver and it sounds really good. However, when the song ends, or when I push the stop button, I get a memory access error in Amplitube3.exe causing BiaB to hang.

It's a shame because under MME I get a lot of distortion and dropouts, ontop of the expected latency.

Any ideas for a fix?

Running XP SP3 w/ASIO4ALL here and during beta, didn't get that FWIW.

Try all the usual stuff, reboot the puter, try again, if no joy, try a Return to Factory, etc.

Don't know if that's a cure, but it couldn't hurt to try and may shed more light.

Here's some further info. Got my MME drivers working properly. For some reason MME wasn't working well with my onboard sound card disabled. By re-enabling it I can use Amplitube for now but the latency is anissue for my controller.

Tried Amplitude on a second PC with the same results. It works under MME. With Asio4All it works until the song ends, or I push the stop button. The it gives a memory access error in Amplitube3.exe and partially hangs BiaB. It can be shut down with the task manager but it's messy.

So, has anyone else run amplitube while using Asio4All? Do you get the same result? Any ideas for a work around beside what I listed above? Thanks.

One more idea:

I long ago set my Disk Cache manually to twice the physical ramsize rather than "let windows" decide how big and when...

Am thinking that, if the plugin needs physical ram that isn't available, the windows allocated disk swap is unable to keep up with things and creates the inevitable timing problem.

Don't forget that a reboot is mandatory after changing the cache size like that.

Ok, thanks. So the problem has either been introduced since beta or is related to both my systems. BTW, what version of Asio4All do you have Mac? Maybe there's a newer version than 2.0 that I'm using.

Already tried all the obvious fixes Mac. Thanks anyway.

That's a possibility. I've manually set the disk Cache in the past to cure problems with other software and hardware. This PC is managed automatically so there might be a chance for a fix there. I'll try later and report back.

Thanks again.

Yes, I'm running ASIO4ALL V2 also.

Check above, my post about resetting the cache size.

**ALSO - if your machine is running any kind of Power Saving, whether laptop or not, that should be turned OFF in Control Panel. Especially any of those schemes that ramp the CPU processing up and down to conserve power. They simply can't respond fast enough for this kind of work.

Just upgraded to v2.10, no change. Still ends with memory access error in amplitube 3.vpa.

I set disk cache to max. no change.

Thanks. I always turn off all power saving features because of the potential problems. I also turned off all unnecessary screen animations etc. to no effect.

The problem still seems to be in amplitube. The system is reading an invalid address in amplitube 3.vpa. Maybe someone from PGM might have some ideas if they see this. Also, I may contact support later when I have the time.

Thanks Mac.

Well, that's hardly the same as, "twice your physical ram size" and I would be cautious about such an extreme setting causing timing errors as well...

Actually, the max on this system is 4GB so it's double the RAN size (2GB)

However, I found the problem. It's a conflict with sfz sound font player. Now I need to find a replacement SF player that'll work.

Thanks for the help Mac.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
