Here is the scenario I wound up with as best I can describe.

1. I took the gypsy jazz style, _GJBALAD.STY which shows the following information in the LARGE Memo Box when viewed in the Style Picker window.

_GJBALAD.STY. Gypsy Jazz Ballad Rhythm Section
All RealTracks. Trio.
RT1204: Bass, Acoustic, GypsyJazzBallad Sw 110, Simon Planting
RT1209: Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm GypsyJazzBalladGonzalo Sw 110, Gonzalo Bergara
RT1210: Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm GypsyJazzBalladJohn Sw 110, John Jorgenson

2. I made a quick song using this style.

3. I then added some Mandolin Chops in the previously unused string section using this RT: 610 Mandolin, Rhythm Chop SW120.

4. I saved the style using the new name _GYPMNDO.STY and finally ended up this this style description in the A_user.ls3 file.

@_GYPMNDO.STY\Gypsy Jazz Fast Rhythm w/ Mando ^Features the traditional Gypsy Jazz rhythm section of 2 Acoustic Guitars, Acoustic Bass and Mandolin Chops.*Dinah, Sweet Georgia Brown, Minor Swing
;^@_GYPMNDO.STY,0,0,true,4,sw,8,120,180,140,1000,128,129

5. I went through the process of adding this new style using the My Styles window.

6. After rebuilding the styles list, it shows up in the category of My Styles just fine and loads when I load the song. When it plays, everything is there including the new style with the new name and the added mandolin chops in the Piano Track where I added them previously.

So far, so good. Here is where I ran into trouble.

7. When look at the new style in Style Picker under My Styles, the Large Memo box to the right is now blank with only the text "No Memo" in it. The original style I modified from, _GJBALAD.STY, shows the data when I view it as in Step #1 above. The modified style I saved, _GYPMNDO.STY, only shows "No Memo" in that box when I view it.

I would think that the RT's that make up the user created style would show up but they do not.

Any clues?

I think we have to cut 'n paste or type in all Memo info...

I made a posting while back about this same "grey" area.

Was unable to cut and paste into the Style Auditioning Screen.
Tried several methods.
Best I could do was to enter the 30 or 32 character descriptor that
displays in the style descriptor center of screen.

Tried that but it does not work. Could it be that information is contained "within" the RT itself and for some reason is not ported over when a new modified RT style is cloned and saved?

Received this back from Tech Support last night. It puts this to bed for good.

"I actually had to ask about this one but I am being told the following...

No, customers can't add that memo for their own styles unfortunately. That information is compiled by us into stylepatches.bin, for all PG Music styles.

So it looks like you have done as much as you can do as far as what you have described."

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
