Hi All!

I was working on a solo last night in a project I created.
The "Soloist" feature generated some really cool ideas that I started to transcribe to memorize later.
Unfortunately I forgot to "save" the project after importing the "Soloist" feature, so when I opened the project today the Soloist was completely gone!

I imported the same Soloist (135 Pop 16ths Crusaders) but the solo itself had changed.
Is there anyway that I can find the same solo I had worked on last night again?

I also can't seem to generate "new" solos once a solo has been selected.
BIAB seems to play the same solos over and over until I pick a completely different Soloist.
Shouldn't I be able to generate new solos with the same soloist each time I play the project (song)?

The solos generated are different each time. That also applies to generating the same soloist number, the solos will be different. If you want to save the exact solo, you need to freeze the track (which you can do from the Freeze button, or the soloist radio button.

To add to what Peter has said ...

It sounds like the Soloist track is frozen. This will happen automatically when you save the file after creating a solo. The frozen state of a track can be seen by an asterisk next to the track's name. If this is the case, right-click on the track's name and unfreeze the track. Also, to generate new solos, it's necessary to (a) unfreeze the track and (b) right-click on the Soloist track and select "(re)Generate this Realtrack".

Hope this helps,
Noel

So is there a way to "recall" a solo or part of a solo that has already been "regenerated"?

As I said, I found 4 measures of a solo that I really loved. I starteed to transcribe it mentally, and forgot to save it when I shut down BIAB.

Am I out of luck, or can find a way to do this?

I think the only thing you can do is to keep regenerating said Soloist over the same chord changes and songfile in the hopes that it may assemble something close to what you had before.

Sounds tedious, but I'll give it a go!

Thanks Mac!

You likely know this, but there is already notation (transcription) shown for the solos. Just open the notation window to see it.

Yes Peter, I do already have this information.

However, It's good to be reminded that the next time I hear a solo (or part of one), I should immediately print it out, or as others have suggested, "Freeze" the track!

There's always a "Learning Curve" to contend with when dealing with an audio program with a multitude of features such as BIAB.
The good news is, the more we learn, the more we realize just how powerful a program we're dealing with, which makes the program that much more useful!!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
