I don't suppose there is away to sound a chord (in swing time) on the 1/8th before the 3rd beat and the 1/8th before the 1st beat both of which hold until the next time this occurs. So in other words on 1 and 3 but offset by 1 triplet early until that is to be stopped such that it returns to normal.
Have you played around with pushes? These use the ^ and ^^ where ^ = 1/8th note push and ^^ = 1/16th note push.
If, say, chord ^C is entered on beat 1 of bar 3, this means that it will play on the last eighth note of bar 2. If you want the chord to hold, simply follow it with with periods (e.g. ^C...).
On the image below, the chord on beat 1 will play on the last eight note of beat 4 on the previous bar and the chord on beat 3 will play on the last eighth note of beat 2.
In my experience, pushes work best with midi-based styles.
Hi Noel, I tried it and it worked except for something a bit unexpected which leads to a new question.
It occurs on a jazz standard called "Stolen Moments". It is during the four bar intro. The chord occurs on the 1/8th (in swing time) before beat #2 of each bar. So for each bar I enter ,^Cm7 ,^dm7 ,^EbMaj7 ,^Dm7
It actually sounds better without the ... at the end so I left that off.
The last three work perfectly as you said and it sounds good since the chords land exactly on the intro's melody note. However the very first bar puts in an Eb chord on beat #1. The key is Cm so I guess the three flats explains why it puts in an Eb chord. So now I am trying to figure out how to keep that first beat silent. I read a bit of the help on entering chords and tried opening up the chord settings window on that Eb chord. I put in to rest the chord. It put a single dot after the Eb chord. However it didn't really change it.
If the Eb chord is played with a C bass, then that is a variation of Cm7 (i.e. C plus Eb-G-Bb). If you want to make the sound more clearly C minor based, the following have potential and may or may not do the job for you...
Cm Eb/C Cm9 Gm/C Ebmaj7/C
If you have not used slash chords before, the slash identifies the bass note that will be played with the given chord. Thus Ebmaj7/C is an Ebmaj7 chord with the bass playing C; since this gives the notes C-Eb-G-B-D, it's an alternative way of getting a Cm9 sound.
The single dot is definitely the symbol to tell BIAB to rest. Use it without ^, though. So, on beat 1 of bar 1, put Cm. and then regenerate the song. After making any changes to chords, it's always important to regenerate (I'm not sure if the ^ and . characters force automatic regeneration).
Hi Noel. I had closed down the BIAB file for Stolen Moments and now that I went back to it the single dot is working. It shows the Eb chord but it is not sounding which is what I wanted. So I guess closing it down and reopening it later forced the regenerate and that fixed it.
Using BIAB for our live jams sure is forcing me to learn BIAB better :-) The members ask for new songs I have not played before and some of the new charts are throwing me unexpected curves without a lot of time to get my act together. I had to make up 20 BIAB files in a day for the previous jam. That far surpases my prior record :-)

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
