I want to do away with having to bring my mixer to gigs and plug everything directly into my Bose L1. When taking it out of the loop, the audio of the RD/RTs is very low despite cranking the output of my laptop to max. I was hoping to use a dXI plugin to raise the volume but that does not seem to work any longer for the RD/RT's. Without having to edit the volume for each individual song, is there a way to achieve this?

Thanks,
R

Add a tonematch? I have one, but did not try that yet. I went on a whole house tour this morning, making tracks in Biab, exporting to wma, and then to an mp3 player and then upstairs to the accoustic piano. The wife re-arranged the furniture so the Bose radio is next to the piano so I printed out the tracks and played them there. Same problem, lack of volume. After a nap, I'm going back downstairs to the L1 and messing with volumes myself.

Are you using wav files?

Rachael,

You can assign the PG Dynamics plug in to the audio in Biab. Uncheck the box that opens in the Dynamics dialog box and manually set the boost level there, you can go to +24 db's there. It will boost ALL of the audio tracks in Biab, but you can adjust each real track's db level on the Biab radio bar.

Opt/Pref/Audio/Realtime DX Plug ins

That should boost them without needing any outboard gear.

John, I don't want to add another piece of equipment. The Tonematch would essentially do what my mixer is doing. No I don't normally use WAV files.

Trax, I wanted to use the PG PeakLimit plugin. Weird thing is I tried that on my Vista laptop and it does not work. However, on my dying XP machine it works. I thought I had read on the forum that the Audio plugins no longer worked for some reason in 2010. Now I have to figure out why Vista does not let the plugins work. If I'm not able to resolve it, I'll resort to the global volume adjustment for RD/RT.

Thank you both for the feedback. Any suggestions for the Vista issue using a built-in Soundmax card are appreciated.

I'll post back on my results.

R

CORRECTION: The PeakLimit plugin does not work on my XP machine. I was loading the plugins on the Synth Track, not the Audio Track. So it looks like plugins don't work for the Audio side. I thought they did before 2010?

This may be too simple an answer to what may be a more complex issue than I am understanding but . . . to increase RT & RD volume I click the "Sax Icon" and/or "Drum Icon" right under the Medolist and Soloist Buttons on the main BIAB screen. Each one will bring you to an option to increase RT Volume or for RDrums you have one more step and that is click the "Settings Button" near the bottom right side of the screen. Both will take you to another option of increasing the volume of RD and/or RT's.

Rachael,

Try using the Plug Ins with an ASIO driver and see if that makes any difference. You are correct about the audio needing to be rendered with a plug in before they (Plug Ins) work. For some reason, my ASIO driver boosts the audio db's in Biab & RB here. Maybe the plug ins are kicking in with the ASIO driver here?

Try Danny's suggestion first tho.

Am I remembering correctly that the plugins used to work on the audio side before 2010? I know about the global volume adjustments but would like to use other plugins such as EQ to fully replace my mixer. I've played in some rooms with so much carpet that the cymbals disappear.

Thanks,
R

I also recall a situation at one time where the Audio Effects (DX/VST) would apply to all Audio Tracks. This was a bug, actually, that has been corrected. Now, they only apply to the Audio Track.

For your situation, the only thing I can think of would be a hardware Compressor placed between the laptop output and the Bose input. Since the Bose is actually mono, you wouldn't need to spend for a stereo Compressor, that's the good news.

Anyone thoughts on post wma manipulation in Audacity? I'm supposed to play for my mother's 60th wedding anniversary on Saturday and have put together a 12 piece set of Standards like Foolish Things etc. I'm trying to minimize what we have to setup so at the moment it's the Bose L1, the tonematch, my keyboard and an mp3 player. I'm trying to do it without the computer though the organ sounds thru Band in a Box to the Ketron are much better. Maybe I'll try and figure out how to trigger the Ketron with the keyboard, I've a few days left.

At the moment I've made wma files and would like to change to mp3 and boost volumes without clipping.

I've used Audacity to fade in and out and done a bit of 'gain' but the whole gain thing is greek to me.

Answered my own question, I took the .wav file into Audacity, the gain app seemed to make a good guess, used that, fade in fade out, made an mp3, am a happy camper. Played way better on my mp3 player, volume problem solved.

Interesting in that it was considered a bug. To me it makes sense to allow plugins on both Midi and RDs/RTs and not only Midi. I must be missing something.

I guess I'll keep bringing my mixer.

Thanks all,

If you apply an effect on your audio track, you only want the effect to be applied on the audio track you've recorded, not on RDs and RTs as well. That was the situation sometime ago; it was reported as a bug in this forum and (if I remember well) corrected by PGMusic staff few weeks after.

Peace,

Well, I think that folks trying to use the Audio Track to record a vocal or whatnot did not want the Audio Effects to be all over their backing tracks.

We all tend to think of this program only in the way in which we use it.

I am not sure if this would help, but I once used this method to adjust the RT volume on my Melody channel...

-F5 (or Bar Setting) at the begining of the song
-Pick the track (or Instrument) under "Instrument Changes", for Volume
-From the drop Down Menu, choose "Change by" and enter a +127 to -127 number... to adjust the volume.

Hope this works.

Hi Tchardjian,

I'm taking the opportunity offered by your post because a have a volume problem in Biab 2018 upgrade to 2016.
I don't understand how the forum works, hence I don't not know where to ask for help.

I've used Biab 2016 to generate a jazz accompaniement for my sax and guitar for two years and never encountered this problem before.
In Festive Minor (Mulligan, I entered the chords myself), there's a sudden volume drop in the 2e bar of the third repeat of the b part (!!!).

It affects all instruments (drum, bass, piano) whether I use vst, HiQ or plain midi table.
I tried deleting the bars, resetting preferences, I checked the measure, part settings etc.

When I generate midi tracks and load them in Cubase Elements 9.5, there is absolutely no volume drop.

I don't understand what's going on.

I finally got around the problem.
I loaded an existing Mulligan song (Line for Lyons) and edited the chords to match Festive Minor. The tag to end was a few bars earlier.
I had no sound problem.

My mistake was to try to insert 1-2nd repeat, a seemingly touchy operation.
So the piece is simply unfolded.

Sorry for bothering.

Francoise
