I'm not sure I am using this feature properly but it does create some VERY nice riffs! Just select an empty track, right click on the left end of it and select MultiRiff [685: Harmonica...]. It will then generate a whole track of harmonica according to the chord sheet. It is even possible to select just a bar or two to run this on.

If anybody knows how to use the option below this [MultiRiff... (Choose)], could they please explain?

I must say, this trick seems to create more usabble melodies for the folk/country genre for a vocalist than the Melody or Soloist feature does

The 'choose' option lets you select a different Realtrack to try.
Should open the Realtrack Selection window.

Yes, Bob. It does that. But will it generate riffs with other instruments? For instance, would it work with a strummed guitar RT?

Hello,

I'm so glad I read your post. I haven't tried the "riff generation" feature until tonight. I auditioned several and liked what was played. I can see myself using this feature a lot more!! Best wishes. -charley

Wonder how many more new features are not yet understood by so many?

Hmm. I have played around with this feature a bit more and done some analysis on it - more to come. So far, it seems that 'Riff' means something different to jazz musicians as it does to rock/pop/country. Having watched the video on this topic and tried it out across a whole song, I can no longer see this as a 'riff' tool - to my mind, it is more of a 'style' tool as it does not seem to generate actual riffs at all. I know there are some terminology differences (for instance, a 'chorus' in jazz does not appear to be the same as a 'chorus' in rock/pop/country) and a 'style' could conceivably have two separate meanings between the genres but to my mind a 'riff' is a one or two bar musical piece that modulates according to the chord. However...

The 'riff' tool can be used to get you half way to a riff based line. You can take an RT and make a 1 bar section (or 2 bar, or 4) and save that as a loop. If you set the loop to modulate with the chords (dependant either on the root or the slash), you NOW have a riff based line - very useful for bass parts... Of course, the one bar riff would be the easiest to work with

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
