Does anyone has any experience with 64 bit Win 7 backup programs like Ghost or Acronis? How about Win 7’s built in backup program? Any others?

I have used Acronis on all of my XP systems but it appears as though they are having problems with Win 7, at least that is what I am reading on different forums. I am not familiar with either Win 7’s backup or Ghost at all.

What I am looking for is an image program that will not compress my C:/ drive, that is unless someone can convince me that compressing that drive is ok with some program. What I have is my OS and program files on my C:/ drive while all of my data and supplementary files (wavs for programs, data, photos etc) are on either the partitioned D:/ drive or my other internal HD, i.e. E:/ and F:/. All I need is to backup my C:/ drive as I copy my D, E and F:/ drives onto external backup HDs.

Thanx in advance for your time and information - MarioD

Mario, I don't have experience with backup in Win7, but the product line I found most useful with XP is from EASEUS. EASUS disk cloning program was the only one I could find that could copy through bad sectors on a failing hard drive. The bad sectors stopped Acronis in it's tracks (at least the version that came free with my new hard drive).

EASUS also has a backup program as well - I'm guessing it compresses data, or gives an option to avoid compressing. I don't know this for sure, but I can say that the experience I had with the XP products has been outstanding and the programs run deep if you want to dig in to them.

Don't know about the bad sectors problem, but I've had no problems with Acronis True Image Home. In fact, one of my computers got infected and wouldn't run any programs, not eve to revert to a previos restore point. Acronis had me up and running in less than an hour. This was on Windows 7 64-bit.

That’s good news. John, what version of Acronis are you using?

The free DriveImage XML is top-notch as well. And Stellar Info's customer service isn't particularly good, but their Stellar Phoenix recovery program has saved files I thought were utterly doomed, that no other software could even see.

From your details we infer that you are looking image backup software to backup the system partition C. To do this, you can use StoreGrid. Its use VSS to dump the system data and store it in the Microsoft virtual hard disk format [VHD]. The output VHD file size will be used size of the system used size. If the compression is enabled, it will reduce the VHD file size further. You can also easily attach VHD file into system through the disk space management and it will attach as another drive in your system.

Also we do support the files & folders backup and it will read the file individually and store it in the backup server. For the user data backup, you can configure the file/folder backup job.

I have Acronis Home 2010 myself and got an email to upgrade to 2012 at a very good price. However on reading the Acronis forums it seems that a lot of people are having a lot of problems with 2012 and a lot of users are advising people not to upgrade, I think I have most of the features in 2010 anwyays.

Glad to see it's working for you ok John.

Another good and free backup program for a full image of whatever drive you wish to back up, or even all drives, is Macrium Reflect.
For information look here=

How to create a backup using it, here=

How to use that created backup, here=

I made a backup using that Macrium Reflect some months back of my hardly used laptop. Then over the Christmas period, bought a much bigger hard drive for it, the backup was used to install everything onto the new drive. I can now use the laptop a lot more due to the expanded capacity, the older 40GB drive was getting full, hence not using it much.
I think also that as part of initial set up you can choose to not compress the backup, though may be wrong as I didn't bother too much about that unfortunately, so can't be sure if everything else stays OK if you turn off the compression.
Also it works well with Windows 7 64bit too.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
