I ran into a problem at a gig yesterday when I ran out of cables. My question is how does a Mono/L output on a synth work?
I run BIAB on a laptop - audio output into a mixer, and Midi output into my keyboard synth. Keyboard output then goes into mixer. I only had one TRS cable to connect the keyboard to the mixer so I used the Mono/L output. What happens to any Midi panning that my songs have? Do they get blended into a mono sound or am I losing something on tracks that have L/R panning?

You lose everything on panning on most synths when using the L/Mono out. Very few utilize TRS on that connection. Most default to mono when only that jack is used.
Everything on the Left and Right channel is sent out that one channel. The synth will try to compensate for volumes, but it is all on one channel, and it should be panned center when used this way. Then the Left/Right still work on down the line and are still balanced, but it is an identical siganl being handled on both L/R by the amp,etc, so panning means null.

Thanks for the response. I think you answered my question. I was not concerned about keeping the panning but about losing something that is, say panned to the right. For example, if a guitar part is panned all the way right, using the mono out will place it in the middle? If so, I'm fine with that. My concern was that if I'm using mono/L, would I lose the guitar?
I use TRS because the mixer manual says use TRS mono cables on all 1/4" jacks.

On a lot of mixers the TRS cable gives a 'balanced' signal (which is a confusing term choice to me and many others).
You shouldn't 'lose a signal' from being panned, but it will sound different since everything is centered and compensated for volume-wise.

You should still hear the guitar in the mono mix. It will be at the same relative volume level as when heard in Stereo, but the Panning must be ignored here as it is combined into the single mono channel. Not a problem. Any "good" Stereo mix should translate to mono well.

Doubtful that the synth itself has TRS balanced outputs, though.
Not a kill by any means, if you hear the sounds then the TRS cables can stay there, my bet is that they are running in unbalanced mode, though.
You could likely just use the standard unbalanced 1/4" "guitar" cable as well here and get the identical result. Worth trying as an experiment so you will know that you can, looking forward to that day when the TRS cable isn't available before a show. It won't hurt the mixer to plug a standard cable into that same input jack.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first?
