Are you posting your BIAB songs on other music sites? Selling CD's online? Playing live using BIAB generated tracks? Promoting your own music or band on your own website or FB?

If so, then you have a great opportunity to promote PG Music, and introduce new musicians to the program. Yeah, I know it's tempting to say that you played everything yourself; but did you really play the pedal steel, killer guitar solo and the cello on that last tune? grin

In the future, we will be crediting BIAB on every song we publish, pitch or post on outside sites. We've also put a direct link to PG on our band website (http://www.90dbband.com/Page1.html). It's the least we can do to repay Dr. G for his innovation and generosity.

New users translate into revenue that could breathe new life into the company and could also be used to address all of the changes on the various Wish Lists.

Just a thought.

Regards,

Bob

Great idea, Bob. I've become lax in crediting PG Music although I do promote the software aggressively one on one. I told several big artists about the program but don't know if they've ever purchased it yet.

Both Nina Gerber and Thom Bresh, after praising my tunes, said: "Oh yeah, that's a computer program!" and quickly softened or retracted the praise. It's a mixed bag, tell or don't tell. Nina was embarrassed, after complementing my guitar work, to find out later, "...it was ONLY a computer program!"

I will add a credit to my SoundClick; Sound Cloud; and Motagator sites/tracks today.

PG Music is well publicized by Danny Campo and Josie Cooper, the unofficial ambassadors of PG Music. I can assure that BIAB will be promoted vigorously during my upcoming live streaming show on March 13th.

I'm curious if PG Music has a logo that we users could tag on emails, our music, etc. Everywhere!

Andrew!? Cat!?

Bob, that logo doesn't say much. In fact, it begs more explanation.

It's the Band In A Box logo.

I realize and repeat.

It has a different purpose than promotion of the software.

It doesn't say ANYTHING to me, an enthusiastic owner and user. If an uninformed eye should see that particular logo, it would raise more questions than answers. It doesn't sell the product. That's not it's intended purpose. The hood ornament doesn't sell cars, merely identifies them after the sale.

I plan a tagline similar to this:

"This music was created using Band In A Box software by www.pgmusic.com" or some-such". The listener can then find/buy the software. QED.

I tout BIAB and PG Music nearly every live show I do on Street Jelly if that counts. I know for a fact a few others have purchased since I have been doing my ads, so I kind of feel a little/sort of like I am selling the koolaid. LOL

Yes Bob, get marketing off of their backsides. :>

Later,

I know that you promote BIAB, Danny. That's great.

I was mostly talking to the people here who call themselves songwriters/recording artists/producers/recording engineers etc., who "release" albums, and post songs all over the net. Some have websites where the other software they use is referenced, but not BIAB.

Some may think it's uncool to let people know they use the program. eek Some just want all the credit. grin

I just think that if more people plugged BIAB, it would bring new business to the company. For everything PG has done for these "songwriters/recording artists/producers/recording engineers", the least they could do would be to give credit where it's due.

With 203 Views and 5 responses on this thread, I guess it's too much to ask. Pity.

Regards,

Bob

Bob, when appropriate I mention BiaB on Sonar, Kara-Moon and Soundcloud sites. I have helped BiaB newbes on both Sonar and Kara-Moon. I don't know if this has helped PGMusic's bottom line but I try to spread the word about BiaB.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Although we may all love biab a lot of people don't.

I thought I was doing someone a favour one time by mentioning it on a music related forum, and the response was,

" I want to have the energy of my friends play on my music"
This person was well aware of biab as well, but the program simply did not appeal to him/her.

I soon shut up about biab.

To be honest if I do post a song say on youtube I want people to listen to my song (most won't be too concerned about the backing tracks) I don't feel I need to credit biab for the backing just like if it was a Yamaha keyboard backing I wouldn't feel the need to credit Yamaha.

I do feel though that if a complete instrumental song is done in biab, no singing, even though pGmusic gives you the copyright and rights, its just not fair to claim that its your music, as most people listening to it, will think that you played a lot on it, different for a song as you are making a large input to it.

At the same time I am very enthusiastic about the program and will gladly tell a lot of people about it or try to explain what I know (and if they ask about my backing traks I will tell them) I just don't feel the need to tell everyone in print that its biab backing.

Just my view.

Hi MusicLover. Yep, you make some good points.

The few times I have actually recorded anything created with BiaB, I include the actual performers names with the material, such as
Guitar: Oliver Gannon
etc

This way I feel I am showing some recognition to the other Real Musicians who contributed to my song, just the way any artist includes a lineup of the contributing musicians in an album sleeve etc.

Certainly many of the artists who created the real tracks and real drums applied their own energy. Maybe the other poster did not realize that Real Tracks are energetic recordings made by Real Muso's?

My 2 cents anyway

Thanks for sharing the view of the other poster(s). Like you, I think they are not extremely accurate comments

Good points Trevor, to be honest if I had used Brent Mason realtracks on my song it would be good to include that in credits, but you know I would be a little nervous in doing so.

What if someone listening who knew Brents playing said "God he sounds like s**t in that recording" probably due to the fact that I picked the wrong samples of realtracks or God forbid he might hear it himself, I'm not so sure he would be impressed with me crediting him....lol

I think what we all can take away from this discussion is, if you want to let the world know that you are using biab well that fine, or if you would rather not mention biab .... well that's ok too, unless someone asks you of course, then you can start to sing its praises.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
