The only thing original is me on the drums. I'm using sticks on the cymbal and brushes on the snare. I used Pianoteq for Piano and Garritan JABB3 for Bass. I need advice on how to mix the drums in my mixes. Are they to soft or to loud?I'm still learning Jazz drumming so I know it's not the best. I can play the beat OK with good time, but if I try to solo I get messed up so I usually don't try any solos. I'm still trying to learn to comp with the music. It seems so easy when you see pros doing it, but in actual fact it's hard as hell so I usually play with brushes as it's harder to hear my mistakes. Anyway be brutal as that's the only way to learn. Thanks

leonard,

You're doing great. But you've got those drums mixed way too low. And that piano player way too high. You are the star. Embrace that. I am a firm believer in the fact that the drummer is FRONT AND CENTER (listen to any of my songs - or ask eddie). Did you ever see Buddy Rich play? Egomaniac drummer. Star. Don't wimp out. Let us HEAR SOME DRUMMIN', dude. Seriously. Really. Put it out there. And keep 'em coming.

OK, that is exactly what we needed to hear. Good start.

FJ is right, bring the drums up in the mix. Also simplify it. Bass and 1 piano only with drums. A nice trio.

Then lets hear take 2.

How are you recording the drums? Is it an electronic kit with direct input (DI) or do you have mics? Are you doing the recording in BIAB or RB or other DAW?

By the way, nothing wrong with that piano sound!

Hi Leonard,

Good on you! Taking the plunge and making your first post is awesome! As Floyd has said, you're doing great

I agree with Floyd's comments on how to make this piece sparkle a little more. One of things I continually find is that mixing is an incredibly challenging part of putting music together. I've found that there comes a point where the only productive thing for me to do is to put the mix away for 3 or 4 days and them come back to it with fresh ears. That always helps me. Maybe that is something you could try with this one (if you haven't done so already).

All the best,
Noel

Keep it up. Your chord progressions are good.
But try to learn how to play some breaks, so that the drums
don't play along without any changes throughout the songs.
You have a good teacher in BIAB: Realdrums. Just start copying them.
I liked listening though.

This is weird, I can't hear any drums whatsoever on this track apart from two or three very quiet brush hits in the last third. Is it just me?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
