Hi, friends !:))

Anachronistic, yes, that is this tune that
I am posting here. It depicts one special summer day
I once experienced at my place (I used to
live by the seaside on the outskirts of Helsinki)
looking out over the bay where I stood I did
see both sun, fog, rain and sun shining thru
dark clouds starting to float away from the scenery.
Where I stood I could see the Island with the name
of "Västertokan" far away in the distance, I could
see the fog rising slowly from the sea engulfing
the islands ahead of me oh so slowly just to later
dissipate in front of the blistering sun that came
shining firstly thru those dark clouds.

Well, this is not a song for the season, though somewhere
on this globe they probably are experiencing summer instead
of the winter that we can expect to come to us up
here in Helsinki any day now !

I wanted to post this so you could experience the
difference between the original recording (from my
record- with the title "Blickar Ut Över Fjärden") and
my recent version. I had to do this so you could get
a grip of what I was singing about with my two friends back then. The violins you hear are played by the artistic conductor
of the BBC orchestra, who knew my producer who had him
come over for those violin parts. The guitar is me and
the rest of the accompaniment is by some members from
a dance band !

b) to my recent version

Here is the translation from Swedish:

LOOKIN OUT OVER THE BAY (Music and Words by Norman Wibe)

Verse

Yes I´m lookin´out over the bay
I can see my Islands far far away
in the distance there´s the tokan yeah my old beloved toka ( Referring to the Island of Västertokan )
just east by Southsouthwest

Slowly daylight is closing down
behind the islands there´s a fog risin´on
it is rising from the sea now and it´s slowly yes so slowly
surrounding all the isles

Chorus

And far out thru the thickenin´fog
you´ll hear the boats and ships afar just slowing their speed
and here and there a lonesome cry
sounds so fumbling, almost trembling
”I am here, over here”!!!!!

Verse

After fog comes the rain so light
drops are falling on the window, you might
even see the boats a-bobbin´by the bayside on the leeside
with anchors there a-way

Bridge

The sea is pricked there full of holes
as thousands upon thousands of the raindrops hit their goals

Verse

Yes I stand by the seaside now
in the heaven there´s a rainbow I know
and against the dark horizon I can see the sun protruding
thru clouds a-fleein´fast, yes so fast
far away

Cheers
Dani

Wow, the different versions! Such a difference between the two. You're right, it's not quite the right season for a song like this, but it's gotta be summer somewhere in the world like you mentioned!

I especially love these lyrics:

"Yes I stand by the seaside now
in the heaven there´s a rainbow I know
and against the dark horizon I can see the sun protruding
thru clouds a-fleein´fast, yes so fast
far away"

Very nice Dani. I really liked both versions. I am leaning a bit more to the first version. Not sure if it was my speakers but there was more detail to the vocals and harmonies. But both versions excellent and such a beautiful lyric. Well done

Hi Dani,

Both excellent!

I couldn't really say which I preferred, even after listening to them twice.

It's surprising just how different they are, but they're both excellent in their own way.

I'm so impressed by the way you can get the lyrics to work so well after the translation.

Your wonderful signature vocal shines through on both!

Cheers, ROG.

Really, really excellent, Dani.

The falsetto harmonies have given extra dimension to an already remarkable song.

Another fantastic delivery. Very pleasing.

Wow, I really enjoyed both of these versions! The delivery here is fantastic, and you approach to the song really gave it a unique and personal touch. I love the peaceful quality of the song, and it was easy to just close my eyes and get lost to.

Great work, and thanks for sharing smile

Hi, Ember !:))

Yes, the versions are very
different but the scenery
is the same ! I hope I could
convey to you the extreme weather
condition that I experienced
that unforgettable summer afternoon
1992 that led me to write 16 songs
for my first record later that same year !:))

Ember, I want to thank you so much
for your most kind comments !:))

Cheers
Dani

Hi, Scott !:))

You are right of course, there
is a lot of different instruments
in the original and I did
this second version just so you
could get the lyrics for better
understanding of what the song
was about ! Also, you can surely
hear how much my voice has deteri-
oriated since 1992, but I can´t
do much about it but compose songs
that are easier to sing, I guess ?

I am very glad for your most
kind words and really want to
thank you for them !

Cheers
Dani

Dani,

Enjoyable listening. It was great hearing the original (in Swedish? how many languages do you speak??) - cool! The new version was nice, too...

Dani,

The Swedish version has a really good professional arrangement- you must have had some vocalists of quality to make harmonies like that ( likely with little processing back then?).
The recent recording shows that you still have a beautiful voice and the falsetto harmonies add a new and delicate touch.
I enjoyed both!

Hello, Dani

The both versions are great!
I have listened to the song in Swedish for the first time. Really nice.
The English version also has a different flavor.
The real orchestra of the Swedish version is wonderful.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Hello Danim

Loved both versions but have a slight preference for the most recent version. Very pretty! Your music is always such a pleasure to listen to.

Wishing you the very best.

Hi Dani,

Yes, there's quite some differences between the two.
Of course because the latest is in English, but also the music and vocals sound different.
We don't know exactly which one we prefer.
The first one sounds a bit more "traditional" the second sounding rather "modern".
But this might be because of the different languages smile

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
