Betweening

===================

Cross the cosmos we're speeding;
We only wind up stampeding;
We tell the world that we're moving, but what we want
Is just to keep grooving.

We want satisfaction;
But we live by distraction;
The great destination slips away--
Instead desperation.

Each final turn reveals another,
And countless others lay ahead;
The map's unclear;
We're still right here;
Yet we're convinced
That the promised end's so near

We live in confusion,
Avoiding conclusion;

Still seeking a meaning and never done;
We're stuck at BETWEENING.

Is there any end to all the spin-outs?
Can we arrive at all?
This treadmill run--
What can be done?
And yet we contend
That the blessed end's so near!

Great intro! I really like your vocal here and your lyrics like "We want satisfaction; But we live by distraction; The great destination slips away--Instead desperation." are not only great but so true. Nice harmonies also. Great use of RTs.

This song has such a lovely little bop to it. The lyrics has a really interesting abstract feeling to them, and yet they also made perfect sense at the same time. A little like a riddle? It's pretty cool.

Thanks for sharing!

Cheers,
Ember

Really nice work here, Tano smile It has a very surreal vibe to it I can't quite put my finger on. The abstract lyricism and unique vocal delivery paired with the off-kilter backing tracks really makes this an interesting listen. I really like the harmonies at the hook and the saxophone too - they work amazingly well with everything else going on.

You really made something unique here - thanks for sharing!

Cheers,
Deryk

Very cool "connect your own dots" lyric and the vocal worked very nicely.

We like Ember's mention of "lovely little bop." Yeah! We get that too -- cool groove.

It would be nice to hear a little about the production.

We enjoyed it. Well done!!!

Scott, Deryk, J&B..thanks for the comments and I sure appreciate you listening.

Regarding the production...I'm sure I started by just sitting down at my cheapo midi keyboard and set it up with a Rhodes-type vsti to see what kind of sound I could get, then just started playing that initial chord vamp. Then, like I usually do, I went into the chord screen of RB and started laying out some chord sequences that I thought might be interesting. Once having done that, I created the melody line. While I was doing that, somehow the 'word' "betweening" just popped into my mind--even tho it's not a real word. Well, that just grew into a song about how society always seems to be saying they are going to 'become' something, but always seems to wind up stuck in the in-between place, from where they started towards where they want to go. I found the RT solo's pretty much as is, altho I might have used the "multi-riff" function to pick out 1- or 2-bar phrases that I liked. With the vocal, I usually record it once, then have to refine individual parts to get it sounding like it's on-key; then I copy the vocal track and paste it into another track, usually 3 ticks later, to get some dimension to it. I use Necter to choose some type of vocal effect that sounds nice.
That's my story!

This has an interesting synth vibe feel that holds my interest throughout the song and as always, thought provoking lyrics. Enjoyed this one a lot. I thought the arrangement was very nice.

Hello, Tom

I think this tune has Burt Bacharach feel a little bit.
I hear some Bacharach's musical songs in this tune.
Excellent melody and the chord progression as usual.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
