The Hard Way

A little rock song of regret & lessons learned.

Leon vocal & lyric
I sang a bit and played the guitars.

The Band:
RealTracks in style: ~684:Bass, Electric, PopHalfNotesSync Ev 120
RealTracks in style: 2719:Guitar, Nylon, Fingerpicking CountryBrent Ev 120
RealTracks in style: ~405:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Ev 120
RealDrums in style: NashvilleEven8^5-a:Snare, HiHat , b:Snare, Ride

The Hard Way

Don’t be too hard on yourself
Everybody stumbles now and then
She might forgive you given time
Maybe even take you back again

Some things you have to learn the hard way
No amount of well-meaning advice
Is as convincing as the lesson
Learned when she walks out of your life

I’m not gonna say I told you so
That you’ve got no one else to blame
Cause I know the way it’s gonna feel
Every time somebody says her name
I’ve walked inside your shoes
I know the meaning of regret
Like you will, I understand the blues
I know how low you’re gonna get

Don’t be too hard on yourself
Nobody always gets it right
We’ve all been down the road you’re on
We’ve felt like you will feel tonight

You won’t find answers in that bottle
Drunk or sober she will still be gone
You’ve got to pull yourself together
Dry your tears and try to carry on

I’m not gonna say I told you so
That you’ve got no one else to blame
Cause I know the way it’s gonna feel
Every time somebody says her name
I’ve walked inside your shoes
I know the meaning of regret
Like you will, I understand the blues
I know how low you’re gonna get

Peter,

I really enjoyed this. It has a very cool Al Stewart "Year Of The Cat" vibe. Good mix on the vocals and tracks as well.

Excellent!

Bob

Peter/Leon,

Terrific energy to this. Quite Knopfler-esque - the cadence of the lyric, the rhythm of the backing and (especially) the leads (love those leads!)... A very solid sound (good mix of the instruments for a cohesive sound)

Really enjoyed the listen (several, actually).

Hi Peter.

What a great song!

Super backing and vocal, but what made it for me was the lead guitar work.

I can see where Floyd is coming from with "Knopfler-esque", but for me that guitar had the feel of
Hendrix, both the sound and the playing. I'm thinking "Hey Joe" or "All Along the watchtower".

Fabulous stuff and definitely one of your best to date.

ROG.

Man, does this ever grab you from the get-go!

Yet another fine production from a very fine team.

And regarding the lyric..."ain't it the truth!"

And Peter, you well know how much we love those soaring leads. We can see Clapton bending back and raising a foot smile

This is one you don't need to say a lot about...just listen again and enjoy...

Great collab you two!

J&B

This had me rocking right from the intro.

Great lyrics and upbeat tune.

What a tune! Within about 2 seconds I knew I was going to be enjoying this - it’s got an addictive groove with a great riff, right from the get go. This whole tune just sound very well written, and professionally arranged. I wouldn’t bat an eyelash hearing this on the radio alongside the classics.

Thanks so much for sharing, Peter smile

Cheers,
Deryk

Peter,
Plus 1 to the kudos here - this has an irrisistable drive (I can hear the influences, but fogot them as soon as you start playing those fills!).
Strong lyrics and vocal too...one of your best.
