I wish there were more RT's for smooth jazz so you could make a whole CD without sounding repetitious. I like what is there ,but please at least a few more choices for keyboard and bass players. No need for real track variations changing only the fx of the keyboard and not the licks. I think most people can add their own chorus and reverb to suit their own taste .

Just listening to many of the smooth jazz stations on the internet, the weather channel, and elsewhere, one can quickly get a good idea of the many styles, variations, tempos, etc. used in this type of music. I'd like to see more of these styles, as well.

David, could you give some examples of artists and songs?

I've been using RealTracks for several years to make some great Christmas song backing tracks that I perform to. The jazz waltz tunes are especially good. My stuff is usually up-tempo, though.

I think I know what he's talking about. It's just been a while since I've listened to the radio. The names are almost at the tip of my tongue . . . C'mon, Matt, you know the names, too.

Somewhere in storage I've got a fantastic album of smooth jazz Christmas music recorded by some Nashville Christian session musicians, by which I mean they're from one of the Christian labels up there. Absent finding the tape* itself I can't remember the title or label, so hope that would be enough to go on. Prolly not; the thing is likely 15 or more years old. I'll be sure to post it if I find it. It would be a perfect example.

Since we're on the subject of Christmas, some MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER MIDI STYLES WOULD BE NICE. (Unless they already exist, which is entirely possible.)

*Yeah, you heard me. Polyvinyl chloride on two little reels in a box. Kay-sette.

Yes, I can think of some names. But that info is not for me; it really helps PG Music to give specific examples. When I have requested styles, I got results and it is partly because I left nothing to chance.

One Christmas CD I've got by Nashville musicians is "Sentimental Season". Very tasteful instrumentals. I think the piano guy is David Huntsinger. Also, anyone heard of Beegie Adair on piano or Denis Solee on horns? I wouldn't call their music smooth jazz (the funky kind), but they sure can swing.

OK, just wanted to bring this back up, since it has been 9 months...

I would REALLY like to see some more Smooth Jazz / Adult Contemporary Real Tracks in the vein of...

Acoustic Alchemy

Airborne

Boney James

Craig Chaquico

Euge Groove

Fattburger

Kaori Kobayashi

Lee Ritenour

Mindi Abair

Pieces Of A Dream

Urban Jazz Coalition

etc etc

These should include new Real Drums also, since what is available out of all the fantastic Real Drums WOULD work, but the feel is off...

Anyway, just wanted to bring this up once again, the poor Smooth Jazz stuff is getting lonely beside all the new stuff!!! LOL

That's a nice list.

I haven't heard of the Urban Jazz Coalition, nor Kaori Kobayashi. Have to check them out.

Some artists I would think are in a similar vein to those mentioned above are:

Richard Elliot

Rick Braun

Norman Brown

Steve Cole

Jeff Lorber

some Yellowjackets stuff

I guess we are even, I have not heard of Steve Cole, so there is a new one to look up!

And as bad as I hate to admit it, I am liking Kaori a little more than Mindi these days.

The Urban Jazz Coalition is one group that slipped under the radar for years when I was out looking at SJ stuff, so when I find out about them I get a surprise that they are local boys from Columbus, OH...too cool!

I think you will like them both Matt.....

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
