Hello, This is my very first post - greetings from the Scottish Highlands. I am seriously considering buying the BIAB 2017 for Windows Megapak and at this stage I am trying to establish whether the available styles are likely to suit the sort of music I hope to be able to produce.

I am looking to do marches, hymn tunes, cool and Dixieland Jazz, and what I am calling some classical/film style noodling - all of this simply for my own amusement as a creative persuit.

I would be very grateful if somebody would please let me have an educated opinion as to whether or not BIAB styles would fit the bill here and if so could you please hazard an opinion as to roughly how many styles there might be to suit my wish list - are we talking a handful, hundreds, or something in between.

Many thanks in advance for any advice or comments

Welcome Daithi

I am pretty new here myself, as for styles I think you would be over the moon and in the hundred +.

Though I would recommend you go for the everything pak, that is what I have.

1. You don't need to pay for the import tax in the u.k.

I paid 44.00 pound, after I had paid pg for the program.

The everything pak you can download, as the meerkats say simple.

I am sure a lot of the experienced lads will be answering your call in a bit.

For RealTracks, you should preview the RealTrack Demos of the RealTracks that come with the MegaPak. That should help you decide if that's sufficient for you.

You will also get 400 MIDI styles; however, I don't know which of the 2000+ MIDI styles are included with the MegaPak.

Hi Daithi and welcome to the friendliest site on the Internet.

If you are going to work in MIDI only then the Megapak would supply styles in each of your genres. However if I were you I would look at the UltraPlus Pak. I know that it is $200 more but with it you are completely covered for what you want to do in both MIDI and RealTracks. Not only do you get a lot more for your money it is less expensive than if you ordered the MegaPak then started to buy separate RealTracks. Not only would you get RealTracks but you would also get a lot more styles that contain MIDI and RealTracks and RealTracks alone. This is in addition of the MIDI only styles. That is a big bang for the buck increase in my opinion.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Excuse me John but the MegaPak contains all 2000 MIDI styles. It is the ProPak that contains only 400.

You're right. I was looking at the wrong column. My bad.

Welcome to the forums, You'll find a great team of like-minded folk here, all willing to help each other.

The BiaB product is second to none, and the flexibility and versatility with styles is nothing short of astounding.

As the others have mentioned, check out some of the RealStyles that are available, however, from what you have described, there are many that fit the genres you are looking for.

And with a 30 day money-back guarantee, you can't lose.

Go on, get it, you know you want to smile

Hi Daithi and welcome. This is the wrong forum for your question but since it's your first post, no problem. Just read the FAQ's in the top of each forum to find out what each forum is for.

You have a countryman here who's username is Furry. He's an accordian player who also runs an old time music radio show. You can do a Username search and contact him via PM (Private Message). This is also why you should put this in the Band in a Box forum though, he usually hangs out there. Lots of Biab users won't see your question here.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
