In my opinion a very simple and useful evolution would be to be able to choose which variation of each instrument (inclunding real tracks, solos) in which bar.

For example on one fill-in bar, choose which fill-in I can use in this particular bar.

For now, as I understand, BIAB regenerates variations rand randomly only.
I know I can freeze an instrument, but I cannot freeze a single bar. And anyway, this is boring to regenerate several times until finding exactly what I want...
I know I can force BIAB to choose certain variations (modifying style files), but once again, this is for the whole song.

But I would like to choose each variation of each bar for each instrument, to have a more consistant song. Inluding solo phrases.
Note : I don't ask to do this in real time while song is playing, of course

Or is there any way to do that in BIAB 2010 ?

For the moment, I have regenerate and record songs several times, then choose variations into an audio editor (Adobe audition) and put this all together which is long and boring...

Thanks for his great product !

Sounds like you want Band in a Box to turn into Sony Acid.

In other words, a standard manually selected audio looping software...

If you investigate the inner workings of the Styke Editor, you can do what you want to do.

It may be done via RB right off the bat ... without even glimpsing at the Style Editor.

I'm with Martin.

However, being able to freeze selected bars would be a nice addition. One, two, or more.

Following the Wishlists for the two programs, it is starting to seem that people want BiaB to be more like Realband -- and other people want RealBand to be more like BiaB...

This is interesting.

Band-In-A-Band? RealBand-In-A-Box?

and since RealBand has its roots with PowerTracks: PowerTracks-In-A-RealBox? PowerBand?

This would only work for MIDI files, but how often a pattern is selected is based on it's weighting in the style. So, one thing you could do is to change weights. A higher weight gets selected more often. Read about style pattern weighting in the help file.

Another thing you can do is to create multiple style files from one style file, with each one including only the patterns you want. Since you can insert a new (MIDI) style at any bar, then you could, for example have a consistent set of patterns that might work for a number of bars, but then change to a new style for the next number of bars to get a different pattern. It's a lot of work (well, more thinking about what you want and auditioning the styles to get the patterns you want), but I would think doable. Be sure to rename your styles, so you don't overwrite the original one and realize that you would then need to rebuild your style list to see them (in the "other styles" category).

Again, this is for MIDI only - not for RealTracks.

Another way is to use the bar masks in style maker pattern options to set up a chain of patterns of 8 bars length assigning a 9 weighting to each one. This should screen out all the other patterns except for those that kick in as specific chord type riffs, post-fills or fills which can be muted. Then you can reimport the patterns genrated from an exported midi and make a new style out of your favourite patterns.

Regards

Alan

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
