I have a few questions that maybe some tecky computer savvy persons can answer. I really suck at technology.

I had 2017 BIAB Pro and Real Band. Now I purchased the 2018 Ultra Pak as a separate hard drive which is called my G Drive.

I had also just purchased the 4 Set of Xtra Paks and had installed them on my C drive with the 2017 BIAB (of course they didn't really work with the Pro version).

When I plug in the external hard drive I see the BIAB and Real Band, alot of other folders and one called bb.

I assume I will delete the old C:\bb the old BIAB and Real Band.

Then, do I install the 4 Set Xtra Paks to the G:\bb file on the external hard drive?

Will the new BIAB read my older SEQ files where I have created songs?

Finally, the instructions for the external hard drive says "To prevent corruption you should always drag the icon for the BIAB to the trashcan before you remove the external hard drive" Hmmm! not sure why?

Those instructions, dragging icons to the trash, relate to a Mac. I think you can ignore it.

This assumes they sent you a drive for the PC version and not the Mac version.

Thanks so much Matt. And also if you could answer these three questions.

1. Do I delete the old C:\bb the old BIAB and Real Band.

2. Do I install the 4 Set Xtra Paks to the G:\bb file on the external hard drive?

3. Will the new 2018 BIAB read my older SEQ data files where I have created previous songs?

I think I found the answer to #3, yes, it should read them. So, just need the answers to #1 and #2. Thanks.

#1, No, install over your older version. Then install any xtra paks to the same place.

#2, I do the installs of xtra paks to the PG Music drive too, once I’m all done. This isn’t necessary, and some people probably just leave it clean; I prefer to keep all copies up to date. Your call either way.

If you plan on running the new version of the software from the C: drive still, then install the new version 'Over' the old version. Don't delete it prior.
Pay attention to the questions the Installer asks along the way, like 'where do you want the realtracks located' .. this is where you can save space on C:\ and read those from the external drive if you want, as many do.
If you have room on C:\ and all the realtracks were there before, then go ahead and put them there again. Mimic the previous install but install 'Over' the previous version so you don't lose any previous XtraPaks and such.

I agree with Matt, I try to keep at least one external drive current as well as one internal drive system current.

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
