this would make a great trivia thing at a break on a gig. Maybe give a way a CD. You say I give you a destination and you use a song to tell me how to get there. How do I get to Hotel California...,
You might even use the last one for example West Virginia.... NO..here's a hint..Mountain Momma...take me home...
Then right into the song....
Chattanooga ------------Choo Choo ta. da....pardon me Roy is that the cat that chewed your new shoes.....
Halfway to the stars . . . a little cable car

Clarkson .................... Last Train
Cute John.
But as an old Monkees TV show watcher, I gotta tell ya it's Clarksville.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Train_to_Clarksville
Wow, Clarkson is a stop on the train just before Toronto's main stop, and having taken the train hundreds of times to Toronto I get confobulated. Very much so.
The best deal in town, take the 1st class train to Toronto. The drinks are included, one after you get going in your luxury leather seat, usually they overpoured it to a double. One before the meal, same size. Two glasses of wine with your meal. An after dinner drink, port or Drambuie or Grand Mariner in a snifter. It looks like a triple. I get off the train and the wife says, you are pretty glassy looking there. "Sssokey dokey hows aboot a wee kith wassie?"
Her: 'yer drunk!'
Me: 'it's okey dokey hows about..."
Ha, no more, I had a beer yesterday. A whole pint. 8/10's of it was left on the table. Can't drink wine at all, dries out my mouth. No more hard liquor, can't do it. I can still smile though.
I was way too old for the Monkeeys. My sister was born in '61, that was her deal. I was into the Stones and then CCR. .
On the other hand the Everly Brothers, Gordon Lightfoot, anything folk. Hippie music I became 'french' and was isolated, and I have lots of Quebec music of the Charlebois era...
Michigan........Greyhound
Which oldbie knows this one?
Take the A Train - Harlem Nocturne
Truck -->
the hill that leads to Scranton, PA(30,000 Pounds of Bananas, Harry Chapin)
Uist...... (by) foot
Skye...........Bonnie Boat
Chattanooga ...............(by) Choo Choo
New Orleans .............Diesel (Bobby McGee) took us all the way to New Orleans
Old Virginny.........Carry me
from Stockbridge to Boston.......> turnpike
(clue: "Berkshire seemed dreamlike on account of that frostin'")
San Antone ....> on a train that keeps a-rollin
(clue: as heard from a cell in Folsom Prison)
I like the idea of doing this at gigs as a form of audience interaction. Good idea!

Sounds like fun!
I've been wanting to take a train trip somewhere for a long time (maybe take my daughter to the R&R HoF) but Amtrak just doesn't cut it.
VIA Rail Canada seems much better.
The train from Toronto to Quebec City is awesome, or stop at Montreal.
But by far the best is the western route. Via runs from Edmonton to Vancouver, a great experience and less I think that the Rocky Mountaineer. I've done the train from Toronto to the west coast a bunch of times, and from Toronto to Montreal about 10 times, sometimes on to Quebec City.
Check out this:
http://www.rockymountaineer.com/en_CA/Many consider this the greatest train experience, I remember going through tunnels and seeing the engine emerge way below us before we got in...very cool.
There used to be an Amtrack train every day from Chicago to Toronto, I think they stopped it last year. Too long at the border going into the US.
