I just bought a new keyboard (a nord stage 2) and would like to be able to record the sounds coming out of the nord to BIAB. Before anyone suggests, Real Band is not working here but that's another topic, lets not go there here in this post. I run win 7 64 bit.
I have set up BIAB for Asio its all working correctly on playback - I can hear realtracks. I am even getting input activity on the VU meter but no output activity ofr the keyboardc, only realtracks output activity.
What I want to do is to be able to hear and then record if I desire, the sound from the nord along with BIAB tracks. I also want to simply playalong to BIAB for practice purposes, using the Audio output from the nord into BIAB.

I was never able to get recording to work aso I dont really know if its a simple press of some button. I tried using the red record button, both before and during a track - zilch from the keyboard.

Everything works in other apps, audio and MIDI.

Can anyone help please

The audio out from the keyboard must go into the LINE IN of your sound card.On the BIAB audio Drivers page on the left side choose your sound card as the audio input device.
Press record.
Make sure that Windows sound applet is set up to record as well. If it works in other programs it most likely is.
thank you silvertones, the audio input is working in Cubase fine. I am getting input on the VU meter in BIAB so presumably sound is getting in to BIAB.
The windows sound applet - presumably you mean control panel/ sound/recording

this shows saffire asudio as the default and only device as a 'microphone' its not a microhpone its a 56 channel audio interface, but whose quibbling. If I right click and go to properties then the Listen tab the box Listen to this device is unticked, if I tick it I get a hiss, but no change in BIAB.
I am running in Asio, not MME if this helps

I can record in other apps such as Cubase.

still no joy
Hi Zero,

There are 2 different record buttons in Band-in-a-Box. One is for recording MIDI, the other is for audio. The plain red circle is for MIDI, and the one with the wave on it is for audio. Make sure you are using the right button for recording audio.

When using ASIO, you should make sure that Band-in-a-Box is using the right input. Depending on your sound card or audio interface, there could be multiple input choices. If you click on Opt. | Preferences | Audio | Audio Drivers, there will be lists for Input Port and Output Port.

Another thing to check is if any other audio applications are running (such as Cubase) since they could be preventing Band-in-a-Box from using the input. ASIO only allows one application to be using the sound card at a time.

Also, for troubleshooting purposes, you should try recording with MME instead of ASIO.

Hi Blake, still not working. I have tried to ring PGH but itsw c onstantly engaged
am I dialing the right nuber (from uk)?

I really need help I have had this program for some years and I hav e never got it to work. My system is both up to date and powerful core i7 920 12 gig ram W7 64 BIT ultimate
Focusrite Liquid channel 56 Audio.

to answer your questions:

1] Cubase is not running

2] Correct inputs are selected I am getting some sort of signal in the Vu meters as input - its not swtrong though

Precisly how should it work?

Can I assume that if you hit the record nuitton you should hear youyr Audio?
Maybe you should be able to hear audio before you hit record
Do you have to wait until the track starts
BTW everything works elsewhere - ie. Cubase.
As far as recording goes, you should only be able to hear the audio AFTER you have recorded it. In order to test if recording is working, you need to:

1. start the recording process

2. play something on the keyboard (whether you can hear it or not)

3. stop recording, and choose the "keep take" option

4. press play and listen for the audio you recorded (you could also go to the Audio Edit window and SEE if there is any audio there, rather than just a blank white page)

If the issue is that you are not able to hear live-input (the sound of the keyboard playing through the computer speakers WHILE you are playing), then that is a different matter. Live input monitoring is controlled by the sound card or audio interface. For example, some audio interfaces have a knob or button to turn on input monitoring. So if input monitoring is enabled, you should be able to hear your live input at any time (even when there are no audio applications running). If you only hear live input once you open a program like Cubase, that is probably because Cubase has a feature for routing live input to the output port.

ZeroZero,

Grasping at straws in your behalf.

Do you have a USB port with audio on it going to your PC also?
If so, it could be conflicting with your other inputs based on
what Blake commented on.

Just on the off chance,

seeker I have dozens of usb devices plugged in to my sttudio - dont tihnk its this though

Blake

Stil cant get thru on the phone is the correct number posted above?

tried the steps -nothing no audio visually aurally.

I think you might have something with your second point, however my sound card softare is so horrnedously complex I had to get a sound engineer in to sort it ourt last time I tried ot tweek it. I dont know how to post a snapshot of it, but htere is one here atr this website:

http://www.focusrite.com/press/liquid_saffire_56/

this is my audio interface, I am inputting my audio through channels 5 and 6
Yes, that is the correct number.

If possible, you should try recording through 1 and 2, since those would be selected by default in any audio application.
The liquid channel has emulations of the classic mixing desks on channels 1 and 2 so I dont want to use these. I prefer to save these for microphone work.

I tried the number over and over and got engaged tones. Its gone ten pm in Uk so i will try tomorrow.

I feel really fed up, I have owned biab and realtracks for a few years I can never get real tracks working with a VST and I have never been able to record. Yes Cubase does route Audio correctly withott worrying about sound card settings. Everything works without this hassle. Why doesnt BIAB?

its a great product in the real track sense, but the Asio handling is terrible, so is the VST handling. The whole application needs a complete rewrite. I tihnk PG knows its all cobbled together, but when is the rewrite coming?

In my system I can use more than one audio device, I keep hearing you can't do this, but I have BIAB running at the same time as TruePianos standalone both set to Asio. Only thing is I can't record anything,

time to give up again, go to bed
