In 2012 BIAB, the tone control for the Melody track is greyed out in the mixer panel... used to be able to adjust it ?

Cannot apply Garritan VST to the midi melody track ? I can select it, assign it to slot 4 (melody is on midi channel 4) but no audio is produced.
Tone is a treble/bass adjustment for audio (RealTracks).

Haven't used Garritan yet.

Make sure that the mod wheel on the Garritan is turned up. BIB resets the mod wheel to 0 and Garritan uses the Mod wheel as an expresion so at 0 no sound. Personally I have been very disappointed with Garritan and the way it behaves with BIB.

Thanks Matt. You are correct.

Yep, mod wheel was the issue on the Melody track. Thanks ! HOWEVER, every time you press stop / play, the mod wheel is reset back to zero ! What a drag.

...another Garritan / BIAB issue:

I applied an Upright Bass to a midi bass track. Great. Plays and sounds good. Save the BIAB file, close BIAB. Reopen the file and the midi bass track plays the GM2 sound and not the Garritan VST sound (it's still selected and shows up on the Mixer Plugins tab). I have to set the bass track plug-in back to none, the re-apply it for it to work.
To clarify, I experimented with Garritan JABB when it first came out, and even wrote the notes that became the FAQ for using it with BIAB. The Mod Wheel always seemed odd to me, also, since you hear nothing unless it is turned up and there seems to be no way to automate that. I hope I'm wrong, because I thought many of the sounds were great, particularly the acoustic bass. I have not experimented with Garritan in about three years.

Matt, in my brief experimentation with 2012 / Garritan, I'm enjoying most of the Garritan sounds. The mod wheel thing seems to only matter if the VST is on the Melody track. The mod wheel is 'zero' on the bass track but plays fine, and yes the upright bass sounds are really good.

It's great to read that you seem to be doing well with it. Perhaps you could put a post in the Tips and Tricks forum to guide others. Thanks for the report.

I'm still not clear on things at the moment Matt... after I get a handle on what's going on, I just may do that.

PITA having to reload the VST to the bass track every time I open BIAB to play the tune. VST shows it's applied, but BIAB insists on playing the GM2 bass sound. Have to reload the VST every time I load the tune ? Not good.
We're working on a solution for the Garritan Jazz And Big Band (JABB) issue.

The issue is that, using Aria Player and JABB, some instruments (brass and woodwind) require modwheel events (cc1) to control the volume, instead of MIDI velocity. So the solution we are working on is to automatically send those events in MIDI tracks that are hooked up to the Aria Player. That would appear as a free patch to 2012, hopefully within 2 weeks.

The modwheel issue doesn't affect instruments other than brass, woodwinds, and organ. Other instruments play fine, and respond to velocity events.

I like the Garritan sounds, but the mod wheel is very non-standard. I think the idea was that when you are playing live, you can use it as a volume swell while you're playing (or for a diminuendo).

Also, if you want vibrato, you need to have a keyboard that supports aftertouch, as that's the only way (that I can figure) to get it to play vibrato. There is no midi command that I can find to insert into the stream to effect after touch, so without it, no vibrato.

Other than that, it's great.

Thanks for the update Peter !

What about the issue of the VST not being 'honored' after the next reload of a tune ? If one has spent time altering the controls section of Garritan, applied an ambience etc. This is is a PITA to redo every time BIAB is relaunched, or is anyone else not having this problem ? (entirely possible)

Please see my post in the Real Band forum for another 'big' issue, for me at least.
Good news. I'll give Garritan JABB another try when that patch comes out.
Mitch,
Yes, we'll look into that issue.

Using something like MIDIOx allows you to change a CC# into an aftertouch command, but it can get complicated.

Peter, FYI, in Real Band, the VST 'stays put' only in BIAB does it not honor the VST but plays the GM2 file.

Is this documented somewhere. I've got MIDIOx, but haven't look at it in a long time.
