Hi Guys

I am trying to make a backing track for a simple Earl Bud Powell song called Buster Rides Again

Very simple chord structure with 8 bars Latin and then 8 bars Swing

I dont use "defince c, d" in song settings but rather use the ability to change the complete style at bar 9 by using the Bar Settings tag.--I think it gives me more options

Anyway what I want to do is to have those style changes in chorus 1 only as I want to set all the improvisation choruses to latin which is what his recording is

When I go to Bar Settings I do see a drop down box which says these changes are to either All Choruses or Choruses 1 to 40

In my simple mind I though that if i selected Chorus 1 and clicked OK then it would achieve what I wanted

Obviously not

What am I doing wrong--how do i get it to only change styles in chorus 1

In a perfect world of course it would be nice to be able to pick first and last choruses for the style changes so when you go back to the head after all the impro choruses it would revert back to the style changes but I realise thats going a bit too far

I realise I could set out the whole song as one big chorus but its very handy to be able to change the number of choruses quickly depending on how many of us are playing at a particular session

Any help appreciated

My only excuse for posting such a stupid question is that I'm a bit jetlagged after returning from NYC

Sorted now of course--choose the chorus number BEFORE you enter the style change not after !!!!

My appologies

Sesrch the Stylepicker for the stylenames that have "Dolphin" in them, these were designed to work standalone with those "bossa to swing" songs and you may find some that work well with your chosen target song.

The A substyle, Blue Part Marker, will be the Latin or bossa style.

The B substyle, Green Part Marker, will play in walking bass swing style.

Middle choruses can go either way depending upon your global settings, I keep mine set to Swing on the middle choruses for soloing, however. This is just to let you know that it can be turned off if your particular situation needs to have the bossa to swing stay throughout the song.

Easy and you don't have to switch styles -- or wade through them to find two that "match" -- and you don't have the added issue of instruments suddenly changing, as can happen when using two different styles.

Is there a Dolphin like style for doing "sack of woe" by julian adderly which has an 8 bar intro at the same chord, 12 bars of blues with rock beat, 12 bars of blues with swing beat, and a turnaround of 4 bars at the same chord.

If there is, I don't know of one offhand.

This one may be a candidate for the use of Bar Settings and Change Style at Bar, though.

Another approach is to make a multistyle for that song.

For example, let say you want a song that goes from Style1 to Style2.

1. Load in Style1.
2. right click on any part marker (or any bar number). Choose "Define C/D"
From the styles menu that now appears, choose Style2

Now, you can simply select styles a/b when you want Style1 and c/d part markers when you want style2 (right clicking on the part marker will remind you of the styles.

Then you can freely switch between style1 and style2.

If you like this, and want to save it as a STYLE, enter the StyleMaker (press the MISC button, and then enter Style2 on the MultiStyles line, and then Save the style with a memorable name like Style1&2

HI Peter,
I really like the feature where the middle choruses play in substyle B, but I can't figure out how to use this feature with multistyles where A&B are both latin and C&D are swing. Is there a way to use C or D in middle choruses, or maybe edit the multistyle to move the substyles around?
Thanks,
Joe.

For these purposes, the second of each pair of substyles would be treated as 'b'.

So that if you have a multistyle with a,b, c,d, e,f substyles, then 'a' 'd', and 'f' would be the substyles played in the middle choruses. For example, if 'c' was normally to play, then it would be replaced by 'd' in the middle choruses.

I need to switch between latin montuno feel with a salsa feel not bossa. If this is not possible can I create my own drum track using the realtrak drums? and if so please point me to a video tutorial or give me instructions.

Can you go to Edit > Unfold
then just change the style @ the bar you need then change it back @ the bar you need.
