Can BIAB these days insert chord symbols to screen playing the chord on the keyboard or does it still have to be typed in?

My memory fails me.

Hi Devonplayer

If you meant: "Can BIAB these days insert chord symbols to screen by playing the chord on the keyboard", then I believe the answer is no. You need to enter the chords that you require, using the computer keyboard.

Band in a Box has a feature that will recognize chords fingered on a MIDI controller connected to computer via MIDI on the Thru channel.

But the feature is not "realtime" like an auto-arranging keyboard works.

This feature can be used to Enter chords onto the Chord Sheet, one beat at a time, instead of typing in chord names on the qwerty keyboard.

When using this feature it is important to always finger the Root note of the chord as the bottom-most note in order for the program to identify and Enter the chordname properly.

Also a good idea to first enter the correct Key Signature.

Thanks for the info on chord insertion.

Guess I shall have to wait a little longer for that one.
