I have a BIAB version of "Unit 7" that I've used without issue for several weeks. I played it today and neither the bass nor the piano tracks produced any sound. Both are realtracks. If I change out the RT for midi, no problems. If I try to erase either track and regenerate, no sound. Same if I swap out the existing RT for another one. The RT drums is not affected nor are any of the midi tracks, like the melody. All other songs with RT piano and/or RT bass play normally, as does a recreated "Unit 7" that I made from scratch. The problem is directly related to this file. Here it is for anyone interested in dling it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/na35k45mj1csfe2/UNIT_7.MGU?dl=0

I'm asking this simply out of curiosity, what may have caused those two RT on this one song to stop producing sound? (Yes, the tracks are enabled. Yes, there are notes displayed in the Notation window. No, nothing is frozen.)

Again, this isn't causing any problems for me. I'm just curious to understand the cause (and possible solution).

Thanks,

Bob
Hi Bob,

Are track volume sliders at a suitable position? You didn't mention those.

Noel
Verified.

I downloaded your file and got the same results. The drums, piano and bass are all supposed to be RealTracks but all I hear is drums (and the MIDI melody).

Good song, by the way!

Hi Bob,

I downloaded the file and tried it out. I see that the volumes are correct.

Everything worked for me. I didn't fiddle with anything.

I tried this file and got the same results as the original poster. Also, the melody track played as a piano, not as as tenor sax as indicated.

I then tried opening the file in RealBand, which played fine.

I also tried loading the style demo song in BIAB, which worked correctly, so it's not the style itself.

Looks like maybe this file got corrupted somehow?!?
@jford: Melody is an upper midi patch to a Ketron instrument. I guess that explains the piano subbing.
@Matt Finley: Thanks for checking. "Unit 7" is fun, especially with the change from swing to latin and back. Cannonball's version is still my favorite.
@solidrock: Thanks for resaving the file. When I'm at my music workstation later tonight, I'll give it a whirl, and will post my results.

Try this Re-Saved File UNIT_7_Re_Saved.MGU

@solidrock: Your 'Unit_7_Re-Saved.MGU' file gives me the same problem: no RT bass or piano, just like the original. Nevertheless, thanks for helping.

Best wishes,

Bob
I just downloaded it.
Here is what I got in the mixer and then I selected the RealTracks window:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/37640589/Unit%20Seven%20SC1.jpg

I played with the file a little. I could assign RealTracks to other instruments and have them sound. No matter which RealTrack I assigned to Bass or Piano, these two instruments remained mute.

Edit: I had the same result with Solidrock's version.

Hi Bob,

When I read through this thread, I found it interesting that the file played for me but, for most of the others, it did not.

I think I've found the solution to your problem.

For some reason, this track has a Hi-Q bass sound attached to the bass track. I suspect that you tried this out at some point in time and then loaded a Realtrack. Unfortunately, when the RT was loaded some Hi-Q remnants remained.

Try the following ...

Right-click on the Bass track and select the option I've highlighted below with a red rectangle.

When the Hi-Q menu pops up, select the top option to remove the sound and then click ok.

See if that helps.

Noel

P.S. It seems that the reason I was able to load the file originally and have it play for me was because my RT auto-substitution was disabled. I turned this off a long time ago. (See image below.) When I re-activated the auto-substitute, the file behaved for me just like it behaved for you.

Using your suggestions I had the RealTracks working as intended.

@Noel96: Thanks for going thru all that trouble. I'll give your suggestion a try and report back (probably late tonight or tomorrow AM).

Your solution worked like a charm. I took your suggestion and disable the auto substitution feature. Thanks!
Hi Bob,

Glad to read it worked out.

I always leave the auto-substitute off because it lets me try tracks that are outside of normal boundaries. Some tracks render fine even though they might be stretched/shrunk beyond recommended limits.

Since the tempo is always part of a Realtrack's name, it's easy to know which tracks I'm expecting to perform beyond their designed capabilities.

Noel
Hi guys,

When I opened that song and looked at the "Plugins" tab of the mixer, I saw that SampleTank was showing up as still assigned to those tracks, though it isn't listed in the VST/DX Synths/Plugins window. This seems to be keeping the track types stuck as MIDI, stopping audio from playing on them.

I got the tracks to play by opening the Plugins window, and re-selecting "None" in the top slot for Piano and Bass. You can also stop this from happening by removing SampleTank from any track that had a Hi-Q sound on it before trying to replace it with a RealTrack.

Clearly these work-arounds shouldn't be needed, so I'll still make sure the bug gets reported right away. smile

Cheers
