Is anyone using a Ketron SD2 with a USB audio interface? (Mine is a Scarlett 6i6.) I cannot hear Realtracks and the Ketron at the same time. There is a software mixer with the Scarlett, I cannot find a combination that works for both audio sources.

I used to have a Mackie mixer and M-Audio 2496 mixer, that setup let the Ketron work great with BIAB. I could also record real time audio into my DAW. It worked with RealBand as well, although I have never gotten good with RB for some reason. (I use Acid.)

The Scarlett has MIDI in and out. The Ketron has MIDI in and thru. The Ketron also has audio L and R out, that is hooked up to audio L and R IN on the Scarlett, that is how I am able to hear the Ketron.

My USB keyboard works fine to play and record MIDI from the Ketron in RealBand, however I cannot hear an audio track and the Ketron at the same time.

So I've been thinking of going back to my mixer. But mixers have their own drawback, noise, in the finished product. And the Scarlett sounds much better on recorded vocals than the Mackie/2496 solution.

Phew! Any help appreciated.

You are taking the audio OUT of the Ketron to the audio IN of the Scarlett? You can use either MIDI in, but in my similar setup, the Realtracks audio come via USB and I mix that with the Ketron SD4 or 1000 via a 2-1 cable (the phono jack goes into in input of my Scarlet. I have a mike going in as well. I am not familiar with the 6i6 in/outputs.

Windows or MAC? Might have something to do with your routing at the OS level? Check your ASIO settings if you are using that? Try headphones on the Scarlett?

Hey PhillyJazz,

Thanks for writing! The 2i4 doesn't have audio inputs on the back, correct? Where are you plugging into when you say 'the phono jack goes into an input of my Scarlett?' Do you mean an input on the front? I just figured those were for mics only. So in Scarlett MixControl you select line in on 2, and you run the Scarlett back into itself? I have left and right rca jacks coming out of the Ketron and going into 1/4" left and right inputs on the Scarlett. So I need to get four outputs to one input? The link below shows the 6i6, the pic at the very bottom shows the rear connections.

And here's the back of the SD2:

I've tried different MIDI hookups and got nothing, that might be what I need to get going correctly. I have a keyboard for MIDI input, that works fine with RB. Thanks again, sorry for any confusion.

Correct .. I have two inputs in front (phono or XLR.) I use a 2-1 RCA - Phono to get out of my SD4 into the front input (2) of my 2i4. (1) has an XLR condenser mike. The 2i4 does not have any complex routing software. That's why I got rid of my old FastTrack Pro mixer. I didn't want to fool with busses etc. All balance now comes from two physical knobs.

Wow, that is great! I never record more than one instrument at a time, so this would be fine for me! Thanks, I can't wait to try it!

Hope it works!! Let me know ...

Dumb question, probably, but should the 1/4" plug be stereo or mono? I've only used mono plugs (guitar or mic) but want to make sure. Thanks again.

I'm sure either would work, but I'm no sure why you would not want to go stereo...

The Ketron SD2 output is stereo, via a left and right channel RCA connector. So you would need to match the left/right of the Ketron to left/right of your audio interface.

Hey Philly Jazz,

sorry to take so long on this. I got a stereo cable, I can now hear RealTracks on one side and MIDI on the other. In Scarlett MixControl, I have monitor output 1 set to DAW 1 and monitor output 2 set to input 2 (the mic input the Ketron now runs into). It doesn't sound very good, I'm sure I need both the Ketron and RealTracks to play in stereo. Hopefully I'm overlooking something simple, let me know.

Thanks again,

Bob

Sorry, but I have the 2i2 and do not have a "mixcontrol" app. How are you setting the balance in the BIAB mixer? The PAN slider?
