IN 2/4 TIME. Trying to slur 8 beats (4- 1/2 notes)tried many different ways. can not sustain the note for the duration. Ed

BIAB notation is not like other programs in that it's not a matter of entering notes and then tying them to get the length of sound required. Visually this might work but aurally, I suspect it does not.
How I'd get the sound to extend for 8 bars is...
1. Enter the note by clicking on the required pitch.
2. Opening Piano Roll mode.
3. Select the entered note on the grid and then drag the right edge of the note until it extends for the required length of time.
This should give you what you are after.
When you look at the music after doing this, you should find that the note will be tied for the necessary number of beats.
If you go to the following PG Music site, in the "Archive" section, you'll find a video that talks about entering notation. It's called "Band-in-a-Box editable notation mode in-depth (2007)". Even though the video uses BIAB version 2007, it applies to today's version since the notation editor has not changed a great deal.
