Hi all
Odd behaviour on thru track using higher banks from PAT files

As some of you will know I have been playing around with PAT files and VSTs
In the last few days .
Every thing is fine and I have successfully created ins and patch files as well as test some of the ones included with BIAB
All work as expected when selecting the higher banks fine ,

If you save your settings for a song file and change a track to use a higher bank patch then save your song when you reload all tracks are as you set them good so far
.
Now for the odd behaviour
But the thru track does not remember its higher bank and sets back to the default normal bank piano on reloading the song .

Also it will not remember the thru track upper banks between sessions and shut down and restart. But it does remember any patch change from the normal GM bank.

So to recap if I set the thru patch say to GM vibes voice 12 that is what I get at next start up.
But if I set it to a high bank patch at next start up I get voice 1 GM Acoustic piano
Even if I save the song
As I say I have tried various pat files supplied with BIAB where I have a suitable synth.
Is this normal for the through track, when using higher banks from a pat file.

Your thoughts on this would be most welcome
Best regards
Mike
Mike, be sure to use "Save As' and not the regular "Save" this should then work for you.

Jeff
HI Jeff

Thanks for trying but, the Thru voice .track still does not save
Even as Save as with patches.
Have contacted tech support let you know.

It’s not a big deal to reselect my chosen Thru voice from the high banks if I still want it, and as I say if I stick to GM patches for the Thru it remembers them .
Also between sessions and power down, even if I don’t save the song.
Thanks for your time and thoughts,
Mike
Mike, this is very odd behavior indeed.

1. So you are taking either an .INI or .INS file and converting it to a BIAB .PAT file right?
2. Then when you click on a track in BIAB, you select Midi Instrument (Patch), then select "Higher Bank Patch from .PAT"
3. Over on the right of that pop-up, select "Open .PAT". There is where you have to pull up the correct .PAT for the synth you are using. If you don't do this step, the correct .PAT is not pulled up and a "Save As" will not save the correct upper banks.
4. If you don't do step 3 correctly, the song will only save GM patches.

Give it a try and let us know.

Jeff
Hi Chris

Yes I do 1 2 3 everything as you say
And all works well for all instrument tracks in the song using higher bank patches
And they are as loaded on recalling the song.

But the high higher bank patch for the THRU instrument does not get saved and therefore reverts back to GM piano on reload of song.

I have tried using some of the PAT files supplied with BIAB in case the is any problems with the original ins files that I have used .
But the result is the same.

Thanks for you thoughts
Mike
Mike, take a look at this image. Do your Thru channel sound in the Mixer and the Higher Banks Patch window agree on the same sound? Once it agrees, you're saving the song by selecting "Save As" right?

Hi Jeff

Thanks for trying.

Yes I do see as your pic and if I save as, to my song it will hold at that for the rest of the current session even if I go to new or load another song.

However after a restart it reverts to the default if I load my saved song it does not bring back the higher bank thru patch

I note that the same is true of gm normal patches on the THRU track
SO I AM GUESING THAT THE Thru patch does not get saved as part of a song ever
But does get remembered between sessions and power off / on providing it is GM and not higher Bank.
As I said odd behaviour
I can live with it now that I know.
Thanks for your time
Mike
Hi Mike,
I'm using my keyboard through a Ketron SD2, and all of my upper bank patched are working & saving correctly. (BB2017 latest build)

I had a similar problem some time ago and it was fixed with an update patch. It's a little dated now, but here is a link to the forum conversation. It's long & convuluted, but there may be something in there that helps you
