Good find...thanks!

Jeff
On a related note, this has been getting some good press over in the reaper forums. I listened a bit and liked what I heard. It works with Sforzando. Oh and did I mention it was free?

Brilliant cool
Spent this morning downloading these (and the update to Sforzando).

Please make note that in Sforzando, if you look at the options tab, you'll see where you can update right from the interface. But there is also an Aria engine as part of Sforzando.

I did that also, but just wanted to mention that at the Aria site it said that if you also have the full Aria player, you should look at the engine version there and make sure both versions are in synch (between the Aria Player and the Sforzando player).
I noticed on the Plogue site that they also have a free product called "Alter Ego", which seems to be a Sinsy type product (enter lyrics and it will sing them for you in English).

Has anyone tried this? I went ahead and downloaded it, but haven't had time to give it a run-through yet.
I've had Alter Ego for quite some time, but never really given it a proper look beyond just messing with various free voices.
When you say "full" Aria player, just what does that mean? Something like sforzando but with more capabilities?
And I was under the impression that the Aria "engine" got updated along with the program itself when you run the sforzando update. Are you now saying we should go back in there and find a separate "engine update" installer??
Cakewalk products use the Aria player for all the Garritan libraries. It's an interface similiar to Kontakt, in that it supports multiple libraries with different capabilities. If you buy a Garritan product, you have to install the Aria Player along with it (although Sforzando can also play my Garritan libraries, just not with all the bells and whistles that the Aria player provides).

If you don't have any Garritan products, you probably don't have the Aria player. Both the Aria Player and the Sforzando Player use the Aria engine to generate sound (as best I can tell).
If you open up the Sforzando interface (at least on Windows), and then click on the Options tab, you will see a button to update Sforzando to a newer version, but also a button to update the Aria engine.
Quite right, but you only need to separately update the engine if its release number doesn't match the release number of the application that is running it. And, just as I suspected, whenever you update the sforzando application, the matching update to the engine is included.
So that's just a one-step update you need when updating sforzando at least, I can't say for certain about the Aria Player application since I haven't got that.
I haven't done the update (will do it tonight), but I suspect that the issue is that when I update Sforzando, it will update Sforzando's engine only, and I will still need to update Aria (for which I am running the latest version of Aria itself, but the engine is one behind and can be updated separately). Or it's possible updating the engine does so across all apps that use it. I guess I'll find out.
All I can tell you that on my end when I updated sforzando just now (they've already issued yet another update for app and engine just last night!), the engine got updated accordingly in just one installation.
Now, whether this very convenient scheme only applies to the Mac, I cannot be sure of, but that would surprise me a lot.
So try just updating sforzando and see for yourself if that won't solve both in one go like it did mine.
Nice, although this one comes with a spam snag which I personally would not promote smirk
